Internationally acclaimed photographer Sylvia Plachy, of Hungarian descent and based in New York, stands out as one of the few who authentically and freshly carry the legacy of humanist photography into the 21st century. A close friend of legendary photographer André Kertész (Kertész András), her work bridges tradition and modernity in powerful ways.
Gifts From the 20th Century Exhibition
Running from April 5 to August 31, the exhibition “Gifts from the 20th Century and Beyond” (Ajándékok a XX. századból és azon túl) showcases not just an overview of her life’s work, but also published versions of some photos. In many cases, visitors can see both the exhibition print and the version as it appeared in print media, often combined with texts and other images. This layered presentation draws viewers into the story behind each photo, revealing how their meanings shift across different contexts.
Adrien Brody: An Ongoing Muse
Plachy’s son, now a two-time Oscar winner, Adrien Brody, has been a constant model for his mother’s work, with portraits of him seamlessly woven into her oeuvre. On April 5, Sylvia Plachy will also give an English-language tour of the exhibition.
