Nestled on the historic Gombos (Gombosi) estate, once owned by the Grassalkovich family and later the Royal Domain (Kormányuradalom), Gombos Distillery (Gombosi Pálinkafőző) crafts its acclaimed Gombos Pálinka (Gombosi Pálinka) using only the finest ingredients. Visitors can enjoy pálinka tastings and guided tours of the distillery, offering a firsthand look at this iconic Hungarian specialty. The venue, with space for up to 40 guests, boasts its own kitchen and a semi-covered terrace—perfect for friendly gatherings, team-building events, company parties, or tourist groups. Traditional Meets Modern
After gathering perfectly ripe, handpicked fruit, the team uses both traditional and modern techniques similar to those once practiced by Franciscan monks. The fruit, already pitted and chilled with advanced technology, is fermented before being slowly distilled in copper kettles in small batches. Only the finest “heart cut” distillate makes it into the bottle, ensuring the taste and aroma of ripe fruit shine through.
The Art of Distillation
Production starts in a fruit processing unit capable of handling 13,227 pounds per hour. After measurement, washing, and sorting, the fruit is pitted and its pulp is fermented in tanks holding up to 2,866,000 pounds in total. The tanks feature chilled piping and recirculation pumps, all automatically controlled. Copper stills with a two-stage small-batch setup—two 33.8-gallon cookers and a 33.8-gallon finisher—are operated via computer, bringing the traditional spirit into the 21st century.
