In Gyula, the Pálinka Manufactory Tasting House rolls out the red carpet for spirits lovers all year long, from January 1 to December 31, 2025. Guided by a pálinka master, your journey begins in the orchard, following the fruit from its roots to lavish distillation. A short film explores the legend of Békés Plum Pálinka (Békési Szilvapálinka) and unpacks Gyula’s historic role in the craft. You’ll get a snapshot of distillation traditions, up-to-the-minute technology, and the actual art of savoring pálinka.
Tasting, Tradition, and Local Flavors
The tasting house isn’t just about the spirits—get ready for a full-on experience. You’ll tour the distillery, join professional tours with the head distiller, and taste over 30 kinds of pálinka (most decorated with gold and champion titles, including national winners). Lectures on pálinka history, tasting events, and even a taste of local handicrafts await—sample Gyula sausage (Gyulai kolbász), honey, jams, and syrups. Unique souvenirs, a stroll through an incredible 21-acre fruit garden, archery, pétanque, plus a kids’ corner with storybooks and a play kitchen round out the visit.
An Atmosphere Steeped in History
Right next door, the Baron János Harruckern (Harruckern János) Tasting House immerses you in a bygone era, pairing local treats with modern pálinka. Expand your palate even further with fresh bread or roast pork straight from the oven. Feeling hands-on? Try making kettle-cooked or grilled dishes—just don’t be surprised if you want to come back for more.
