Step into the whirlwind of the Medieval Market in Székesfehérvár (Stuhlweissenburg) from August 16 to 20, 2025! At Town Hall Square (Városház tér), you’ll find members of the Free Theatre (Szabad Színház) drawing crowds into the heart of medieval city life—imagine theatrical skits, rowdy games, and lively tavern festivities. The stage is filled all day with chaos and laughter, while early music bands fill various downtown spots with authentic medieval tunes over three packed days.
Marketplace Madness Unleashed
As you dive into the market, get ready for squabbling vendors, gossiping busybodies, cunning merchants spreading rumors, drunken jesters, bold entertainers, wandering minstrels, self-proclaimed healers, thieves, charlatans, witches, and even exorcists putting on wild educational shows! You’ll find tips and tricks for disinfection straight from the Middle Ages, stalls selling ingredients like Saint Ladislaus’s (Szent László) herb and dragonweed, and bizarre medieval remedies. Browse wild exhibits of props and relics, try fortune-telling, and even witness a magical water parade and refreshing water stations.
Games, Feasts, and Medieval Mayhem
Try your hand at sack-stacking, carrying bundles, bear dancing, games of fate, and classic fairground amusements. Take part in tavern theater with interactive performances, a face-making contest, “miracle” consultations, and quirky foods said to ward off hiccups and even death! Kids (and adults) can launch catapults at the castle, brave the witches’ forest, toss rings, or shoot suction-cup arrows.
Celebrate old Hungarian traditions—Saint Stephen’s Day (Szent István Nap) and the New Bread Festival (Új Kenyér Ünnep)—with workshops and medieval court sessions every evening, plus storytelling sessions revealing legendary tales from the region’s rich past.
