The Mágor Festival (Mágori Fesztivál) in Vésztő returns August 16-17, 2025, taking over Mágor Hill (Mágor-hegy) with a packed lineup of competitions, music, and family fun—all for free. The festival highlights the 24th Sárrét Sheep Stew Cook-off (Sárréti Birkapörköltfőző Verseny), the 14th Traditional Foods Cooking Contest (Hagyományos Ételek Főzőversenye), and the 6th Vésztő Sweet Showcase (Vésztői Süteménymustra), all held at the Vésztő-Mágor Historical Memorial Site (Vésztő-Mágori Történelmi Emlékhely).
Events & Entertainment
Saturday starts at 8:00 AM with a massive local crafts market. By 8:30, officials kick off the festivities before performances by local folk groups, choirs, dance troupes, and a Roma music and dance act. The new bread ceremony blesses the first loaves at 10:15 AM, and live music follows at lunchtime. Afternoon events include a strongman competition (“Sárrét’s Toldi”), a concert by Fecó Sós, and the prize announcements.
Sunday: Musicals & Fireworks
Sunday night features a family musical—Aladdin by the National Horse Theatre (Nemzeti Lovas Színház)—at 8:00 PM, followed by fireworks. Both days feature crafts, folk games, children’s programs, and riding shows. Organizers reserve the right to change the schedule.
