Burger lovers, mark your calendars: on September 20, 2025, the fifth Szaft “N Burger festival invades Debrecen’s Great Forest Park (Nagyerdei park), transforming the city into Hungary’s burger capital for the day. Expect mouthwatering hamburgers, juicy steaks, serious barbecue, live concerts, a wild mechanical bull rodeo, craft beers, demos, and talks—plus a nationwide contest to crown The Country’s Best Burger (Az ország burgere) and the top steak grillers under the shady trees by Frog Lake (Békás-tó).
All for the Glory of the Burger
From 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., anyone can chase burger greatness. The competition has pro and amateur divisions, freestyle (anything-but-beef) and junior categories, and even team battles for families, friends, and colleagues. For real meatheads, there’s also a steak round; enter both if you dare. Pros compete for serious cash, fantastic prizes, and the traveling trophy, while the best burger makers will get their names in grilling history.
Eat, Drink, and Ride the Bull
Even if you don’t compete, there’s plenty to do: try pro-led burger and grilling workshops, groove to live music, sample house-made beers, and stuff yourself with burger and barbecue treats. Entry is totally free for the public! Just remember: buy your burgers and beer using either your bank card or Festipay card—cash isn’t accepted. Contest registration opens on the event’s website in early June.
