Wine, Strudel, And Medieval Vibes: Nagymányok Festival 2025

Celebrate local wine, strudel, and medieval fun at Nagymányok Festival 2025—family getaways, authentic inns, vineyard tours, and regional cuisine in Hungary’s scenic East Mecsek hills.
when: Friday, September 19 - Saturday, September 20
where: 7355 Nagymányok, Ady pincesor

Every September, the sleepy village of Nagymányok wakes up for the Farewell, Wine & Strudel Festival (Búcsú, Bor és Strudel Fesztivál). In 2025, the feast takes place September 19-20 at the picturesque Ady wine cellars. Guests can look forward to a lively celebration featuring local food, drinks, and a rare chance to unwind, surrounded by the rolling hills of the East Mecsek Landscape Reserve (Kelet-Mecseki Tájvédelmi Körzet).

Medieval Inns & Family Getaways

For visitors seeking peace and a break in nature, the local guesthouse offers family-style hospitality close to the East Mecsek Nature Reserve (Kelet-Mecsek Tájvédelmi Körzet). If your inner knight needs refueling, look no further than the White Swan Inn (Fehér Hattyú Fogadó)—famous for its tempting aromas, medieval décor, and generous portions served by the swan-filled pond near the Southern Gate. The atmosphere instantly transports guests back centuries with its authentic setting and menu.

Historic Mills & Purrfect Stays

Apple Mill (Almalomb) brings together past, present, and future inside a lovingly restored 19th-century watermill. Now operating as a restaurant, event space, museum, and guesthouse, it can host up to 16 people (furry friends welcome). This is where heritage meets comfort.

Vineyards, Cellars, and Local Flavors

Wine lovers have plenty to explore. Attila Estate (Attila Birtok) in the Baranya Valley (Baranyavölgy) near Szekszárd boasts over 34 acres of vineyards, cultivating varieties such as Blaufränkisch (Kékfrankos), Kadarka, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Zweigelt. Just off Route 6 between Szekszárd and Pécs, a rest stop with a rotating menu serves local dishes and weekly specials—even delivered straight to your door. They can host private and business events for up to 80 guests.

Belward Winery (Belward Pince) grows and produces its wines in Hásságy, within the Pécs Wine Region (Pécsi Borvidék), focusing on preserving natural flavors shaped by the soil, sun, and dedicated growers. Bernát Cellar (Bernát Pince), a small family-run venture in Bonyhádvarasd at the heart of the Völgység, highlights the region’s signature white wines, including its flagship Grüner Veltliner (Zöldveltelini).

Bonyhád’s best pizza can be found here, but the gourmet experiences don’t end there. Chef Norbert Makk creates delightfully modernized Hungarian classics, pairing them thoughtfully with Bodri wines to showcase the region’s culinary variety.

The Bodri Experience

Bodri Winery (Bodri Pincészet) sprawls across 247 acres, serving as a tourism center: winery, event venue, restaurant, show kitchen, and multiple guesthouses nestled in a stunning valley south of Szekszárd. Vast underground wine cellars feature twelve domed chambers, with the 3,230-square-foot barrel cellar open for tours. Their 15,000-square-foot rosé facility enables high-quality large-batch production. Up to 61 guests can stay at once, enjoying a thermal Roman bath, Jacuzzi, and sauna for the ultimate relaxation in tastefully designed rooms.

Borfaragó Cellar (Borfaragó Pince) invites you off the beaten path to its former joinery shop turned wine bar in the heart of Szekszárd’s upper town. Friends and colleagues savor hand-crafted wines and folk woodcarving art in this hidden yet accessible gem.
