Get ready to slide into the world of snowy sports long before winter arrives! On September 20, 2025, Hungary is launching National Ski Slope Day (Sítanpályák Országos Napja) and Snowy Sports Family Day (Havas Sportok Családi Napja) across multiple locations, welcoming kids and adults to enjoy winter fun with zero entry fee. Starting at 10 a.m., many city ski slopes will open their doors for a day of free activities, expert instruction, and pure gliding joy—even if there’s no snow in sight.

Family Fun with a Chilly Twist

Snow enthusiasts and first-timers alike are invited to join the festivities at ski schools all over Hungary and at the bustling Normafa Park (Normafa Park) in Budapest. This special open day is designed for families looking to get a taste of winter sports—months before the first snowflake even lands.

The event offers everything from skiing and snowboarding basics on practice slopes with certified instructors to exciting activities like taking the plunge off a mini ski jump or trying your hand at laser biathlon. Check out demos from professional snowboarders and junior ski teams, and see how adaptive skiing and snowboarding break down barriers for everyone. There’s no need to bring anything: equipment is provided, the atmosphere is festive, and it’s all completely free.

No Snow? No Problem!

What makes this day unique is that you don’t have to wait for snow to begin your adventure. Polycarbonate-coated slopes ensure everyone can learn, play, and sharpen their skills safely, whether you’re five or fifty. Hungary’s National Association of Ski Instructors is proud of its elite four-level qualification system for teachers, so whether you come alone or with friends, you’ll receive top-quality lessons.

The motto? “Hejhó, skiing’s cool—even when there’s no snow!” These slopes open for registration starting in September, offering both group and private lessons, laying a solid foundation for when real winter arrives. Lessons are playful, stress-free, and safe.

Why You—and Especially Your Kids—Should Try

The ski schools especially encourage families with young kids (starting from age 5) to join! Weekly sessions aren’t just a great escape from post-kindergarten or post-school blues—they boost coordination, concentration, the immune system, and core muscles. Kids, adults, and entire families who catch the bug gain a lifelong source of adventure and fun.

Jump In—It’s Free!

Throughout September, all participating practice slopes are offering complimentary trial sessions. Each venue hosts open days, so anyone curious about alpine skiing, snowboarding, cross-country, or ski rolling can just turn up and give it a try. The big highlight is September 20—officially the kickoff for the new season—when you can discover Hungary’s world of snowy sports at these locations:

Apex Sports Club (Apex Sportklub, Székesfehérvár), Babos Ski Club (Babos Síklub, Zugló – Csömör), Big Foot Ski School (Big Foot Síiskola, Érd), Fogarasi Ski School (Fogarasi Síiskola), Freeride Club, Snow Friends Sports Association (Hóbarátok Sport Egyesület, Újpest), Miskolc Ski School (Miskolci Síiskola), Nanook Ski School (Nanook Síiskola), Ski School (Sítanoda), Dorog Ski Technique (Sítechnika Dorog), Pasarét Ski School (Pasaréti Síiskola), Szolnok Ski School (Szolnoki Síiskola), TESI Park Ski and Snowboard School (TESI Park Sí- és snowboard iskola), Yeti Ski Szeged (Yetisí Szeged), Viadal SE – Budakeszi – Valley of Flowers Ski School (Viadal SE – Budakeszi – Virágvölgy Síiskola), University of Szeged Exmount Ski School (SZTE Exmount Síiskola Szeged), SKID Ski School Diósd (SKID Síiskola Diósd), Agárd Ski School (Agárdi Sísuli), Sport4Kids Ski School Halásztelek (Sport4Kids Síiskola Halásztelek), Ski-Elek Ski School Szekszárd (Sí-Elek Sítanoda Szekszárd), Bogárd, plus the flagship celebration at Normafa Ski School (Normafa Síiskola) in Budapest.
