September 20, 2025 marks the exhilarating start of Hungary’s ski season, and this year, the whole family can dive headfirst into the world of snow sports—months before the first real snowflake hits the ground. Across the country, dozens of ski schools and slopes will throw open their gates for “National Ski Slope Day” and “Family Snow Sports Day.” Ever dreamed of skiing or snowboarding for free in September, with professional instructors? Here’s your invitation.

All About The Big Day

From 10 am on Saturday, September 20, anyone—kids, adults, total beginners—can join in at participating ski schools and slopes from Stuhlwhite Castle (Székesfehérvár) to Szeged and Budapest to Miskolc. Whether you’re looking to ski, snowboard, or try your hand at ski jumping from a mini ramp, this is your chance. There will be laser biathlon events, team demonstrations by snowboarders and junior skiers, as well as adaptive skiing and snowboarding showcases—proving winter sports are for everyone. And don’t worry about the gear; the organizers have you covered with all the equipment you’ll need for free.

A Hands-On Family Sports Fest

Expect a genuine family experience: courses and open days are hosted by certified, enthusiastic instructors eager to share their passion for snow sports. Support isn’t just technical—these pros ensure lessons take place in playful, safe, low-pressure settings. This event, run by the Hungarian Ski Instructors’ Association (Sioktatók Magyarországi Szövetsége), Hungarian Ski Federation (Sí Szövetség), Hungarian Snowboard Federation (Snowboard Szövetség), and Normafa Park, is all about inspiring as many people as possible to catch the snow sports bug.

Who Should Join?

Everyone’s welcome, but kids from age five and up receive special focus. Children can sign up weekly, turning ski school into the ultimate after-school activity for both mind and body. Besides being fun, snow sports boost coordination, increase concentration and immune system strength, and build core muscles for good posture—a healthy hobby for a lifetime, whether you’re a beginner or out on the slopes with your whole family.

It’s Free to Try

This September, anyone can try out the world of snow sports at no cost on the listed practice slopes and artificial runs. Clubs and instructors nationwide will organize their own open days, but the main event falls on September 20, ringing in the season with style and a full day of activity.

Where You Can Join In

Ready to jump in? Find your nearest slope from over twenty locations, such as Apex Sports Club (Apex Sportklub – Székesfehérvár), Babos Ski Club (Babos Síklub – Zugló/Csömör), Big Foot Ski School (Big Foot Síiskola – Érd), Fogarasi Ski School (Fogarasi Síiskola), Snow Friends Sports Association (Hóbarátok Sport Egyesület – Újpest), Miskolc Ski School (Miskolci Síiskola), Yeti Ski Szeged (Yetisí Szeged), and Normafa Ski School (Normafa Síiskola)—the main venue in Budapest. No matter your age or skill level, grab your spot and experience the thrill of sliding before the real winter season arrives.

Don’t Miss Out—The Season Starts Now

September 20 is more than an open day; it’s an open invitation to move, learn, and have fun in a community devoted to winter sports. Just check your local participating slope for details and times. The organizers may adjust times or programs, so stay tuned, but one thing’s for sure—this is your best excuse to start skiing while everyone else is still thinking about autumn!
