Animal-assisted therapy is gaining ground, all based on the power of an animal’s presence. Direct interaction with animals isn’t just cute—it brings real benefits to the body, mind, and social life. Whether you’re recovering from an illness, dealing with psychological issues, or just need some motivation, trained animals can help create a sense of safety and calm, and can even make talking about difficult problems much easier. These sessions are always conducted with strict hygiene and safety standards and overseen by professionals.
Upcoming Event: Dive Into Animal Therapy
On October 4, 2025, a major event in Budapest (Budapest) will shine a spotlight on how animal-assisted therapies help in treating mental disorders. If you can’t attend in person, you’re in luck—video recordings will be available online from October 6 to October 12 for those who choose online participation. Anyone interested is welcome, provided they register and pay the fee.
What’s On the Program?
The lectures begin with an introduction to animal-assisted interventions: who they’re for, where they work, how they are regulated, and which animals are involved. Talks will explore the psychophysiological background and why these therapies actually work. One focus is on canine therapy for adults facing psychiatric and addiction issues. Then, you can expect lively case studies of dogs working with children in pediatric wards.
Horse therapy has its own spotlight, showing how hippotherapy is used in healthcare with local approaches. Exotic friends join in, too—rabbits, turtles, and hedgehogs as co-therapists at the Kaposi Mor Teaching Hospital (Kaposi Mór Oktató Kórház) Child Psychiatry Unit.
