Castle Crime Night: Hungary’s Own Whodunit
On October 17 at 6 PM, the Festetics Palace (Festetics Kastély) turns into Hungary’s largest Clue board, searching for the country’s sharpest private detectives. For $51 per person, you and your smartest friends or fellow sleuths can join individually or as a group, solve a murder, unravel evidence, and encounter plenty of twists in a breathtaking historical setting. Clues, carefully staged crime scenes, and a time-traveling backdrop will keep you guessing. Ages 14+ only, with limited spots available! Your ticket includes a welcome drink, delicious sweet and savory snacks, and a mysterious prize for the top team.
Model Train Mysteries: Play, Search, Ride
On both November 15 and December 20 (Saturdays, 10 AM–5 PM), the Model Train Exhibition and Historical Playhouse (Történelmi Játszóház) roll out their signature “Detective Challenge.” Scour the elaborate railroad scenery for hidden details using your detective skills—and your phone. Every sharp-eyed kid detective wins a prize! After that, hop on the mini train and finish your adventure with crafts and board games in the playhouse. Good vibes and adventure are guaranteed for everyone willing to join in.

Autumn Adventures Inside the Castle
From October 24 to November 2 (10 AM–5 PM, closed Nov 1), expert guides lead you through the permanent exhibitions. Highlights include:
– 11:00 AM: “Coaches, Carriages, Automobiles”—peek into aristocratic life with a special tour of the Carriage Exhibition.
– 1:00 PM: “Hunting as Essential for Nature Conservation”—a unique grand tour.
– 2:30 PM: “Night Lights in the Historical Model Railway”—explore miniature worlds at twilight.
Plus, the castle’s northern wing opens for tours of the stunning ballrooms, suites, and Venetian Mirror Hall (Velencei Tükörterem).
Special Family Workshops and Sleepy Story Theater
On October 25, from 2:30–5:30 PM, families can stamp unique T-shirt designs together—bring a blank shirt and draw inspiration from templates or create your own. The Museum Education Manager, graphic artist Zsolt Bankó, helps run the fun, while an indoor slide and bouncy castle entertain younger siblings.
That same day, “Sleepy Theater with Angéla Eke” (two shows: 4:30–6 PM and 8:30–10 PM) invites audiences to watch epic bedtime stories—not from chairs, but from cozy artist-designed beds. Snuggle in, get tucked under soft Anna Amélie–painted blankets, and listen to Angéla Eke read magical tales. Tickets are available at the palace box office and online.
When the Castle Turns Spooky
For those 14 and up, October 28–30 unleashes “Halloween Nights” at Festetics Palace (Festetics Kastély). When night falls, whispers echo from the ancient walls, mysterious shadows slip down the hallways, and the secrets of the past awaken. Brave souls explore haunted corridors in guided groups (up to 25 people) at 6 PM and 7:30 PM each night; tickets are available online or at the castle.
On October 30, a special “Nature Tracking” event lets kids discover how to read animal tracks from fields to reed beds—an outdoor adventure paired with the Hunting Exhibition.
Holiday Highlights: Lace, Santa, and More Trains
From November 30 to December 31, don’t miss the spectacular Halas Lace (Halasi Csipke) Exhibition in the castle’s north wing.
December 6 brings “Santa Experience Day” at the Playhouse (Történelmi Játszóház) (10 AM–6 PM). Activities include making reindeer treats, baking butter cookies for Santa, sending letters at Santa’s Post, and gathering at 4 PM to sing and invite Santa himself to visit. Every ticket includes a seat on the magical Santa Train and a day of heartwarming crafts and fun.
December 20 features another “Model Train Detective Challenge” for train lovers and creative adventurers alike. Find all the secrets, win a prize, ride the mini-train, and finish your year with crafts and games.
