Every Tuesday, people can dive into traditional weaving at the Sóstó Museum Village in Nyíregyháza, at the Beszterec House. Participants create their own “masterpiece,” and everyone gets to bring home what they make.
Get Hands-On With Old-School Weaving
Weaving used to be a classic women’s activity in farming communities. Even after factory-made textiles became common, villagers still wove rag rugs, reusing worn-out clothes. These colorful scrap rugs didn’t just add style—they covered oven benches, old couches, or even served as blankets and sheets in the stable. Here, everyone learns the basics of weaving by crafting a small rag rug of their own.
