Hidden under leafy canopies, the Gyula Market buzzes with a family-friendly atmosphere and endless treats for all food lovers. On Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, the market overflows with fresh local products: cheeses, vegetables, fruits, honey, jams, rich cow’s milk, homemade sausages and hams, plus much more. Vendors eagerly offer their finest, making every visit a taste adventure.
Perfect Spot for Authentic Local Flavors
Step into this historic spa town and discover the Gyula Market and Fair Hall (5700 Gyula, Október 6. tér). Whether you crave homemade jams, local honey, artisanal cheeses, or traditional sausages, you’ll find a feast straight from regional growers and producers. Upcoming market days include October 19, 21, 24, 26 (open from midnight to 10:59 PM!), 28, and 31, 2025.
Historic Café and Gift Shopping
After shopping, check out the café and gift shop at the Gyula Almásy Castle Visitor Center (Gyulai Almásy Kastély Látogatóközpont), both open Tuesday to Sunday from 10 AM to 6 PM. For dessert, don’t miss the classic Hundred-Year-Old Confectionery (Százéves Cukrászda), Hungary’s second-oldest confectionery, operating since 1840. Set inside an empire-style building with original Biedermeier furniture, the shop’s painted walls, traditional cakes, parfaits, candies, and ice creams revive the old café spirit. Renovations in 2004 and the confectionery museum make it a true Southern Great Plain (Dél-Alföld) gem.
