Every year, Hungary observes National Day on October 23, and in 2025, Marcali will host a heartfelt commemoration at Heroes’ Square (Hősök tere). The holiday program begins at 4:30 p.m., as locals and families gather to honor the nation’s historic fight for freedom.
Commemorative Program and Speakers
The event features a festive speech by Veronika Kutor, director of the Marcali Cultural and Leisure Center Nonprofit Ltd. Talented students from Berzsenyi Dániel High School (Berzsenyi Dániel Gimnázium) in Marcali will perform, while the Cantilena Choir from Mikszáth Kálmán Elementary School (Mikszáth Kálmán Általános Iskola) will uplift the atmosphere with moving songs.
Candlelighting at the 1956 Memorial
The evening concludes at Marcali’s 1956 Memorial, where attendees take part in a special candlelighting and wreath-laying ceremony. Everyone is encouraged to bring their own candle to participate in this meaningful tribute.
If the weather turns bad, the festivities will move indoors to the Cultural Center at 3 Széchenyi Street.
