Step into history at the Baroque theater of Gödöllő Royal Palace (Gödöllői Királyi Kastély), surrounded by art, unique sights, and centuries of culture. Individual theater lovers can attend weekend performances, while groups are welcomed on weekdays with advance booking. In the southern wing, a theater was created by Antal II Grassalkovich, where renowned German troupes from Buda, Pest, and Győr once performed.

The Palace’s Dramatic Past

The theater closed in 1867. Furniture and stage equipment were auctioned off, and the venue was divided into three levels with new floors. This unusual arrangement survived until 1986, when use during World War II left the building dilapidated and the floors collapsed. Later, wall studies revealed traces of the original furnishings and technology. Restoration began in the early 2000s, but a vibrant cultural life only returned a few years ago.

Upcoming Performances

Highlights for 2025–2026 include “The Earth Sipped Red Rain – Eighty Years Ago” (“Piros esőt kortyolt a föld – Nyolcvan éve”), Csiky Gergely’s “The Grandmother” (“A nagymama”), and the comedy-crime play “Ladies in the Cards” (“Dámák a pakliban”). Organizers may change the schedule and programs.
