Love the mysteries of the deep? The Tropicarium in Budapest is the place to get thrilling, year-round, up-close views of sharks, snakes, and many other exotic creatures during their feeding times. Ever wanted to watch a sand tiger shark devour its lunch? Or gain firsthand insight into how snakes eat? Here, you can not only observe but sometimes even participate in animal feedings.

Action-Packed Feeding Schedule

Weekdays are filled with special feeding times. On Mondays at 2:00 PM, it’s the snakes’ turn, and every third Monday at 2:30 PM, alligators take center stage. Wednesdays feature varanus feedings at 2:00 PM, and on Thursdays at 2:30 PM, divers hand-feed the sharks right in front of you. On Fridays at 3:30 PM, you can watch the dramatic feeding of the marmosets. Monkey feedings usually happen thirty minutes before noon and again between 3:30 and 4:00 PM.

Get Interactive With the Animals

Feeling brave? Try feeding koi fish in the rainforest zone with food bought from vending machines—right next to the alligator tank. Guided tours let you watch or help with feedings of piranhas, rays, monkeys, and free-flying birds. The touch pool invites everyone to pet and, with staff assistance, feed the majestic rays.

A Global Animal Parade

The Tropicarium isn’t called the “shark zoo” for nothing: it’s home to everything from lazy alligators and amphibians to tiny monkeys and thousands of dazzling fish. The star attraction is a 39-foot glass tunnel beneath the shark and ray tank, making it feel like you’re walking right through the ocean with the predators.

Unmissable Dates

Upcoming highlights include: snake feeding (Oct 27), varanus feeding (Oct 29), shark feeding (Oct 30), and marmoset showcase (Oct 31), all in Budapest. Schedules may change, so always double-check before your visit.
