For ten lively days, from October 16 to 26, 2025, the historic city of Eger transforms into a wine lover’s paradise, with Egri Bikavér (Bull’s Blood of Eger) taking center stage. The beloved red blend of the Eger wine region becomes the focus of tastings, wine tours, cultural events, and culinary adventures across the city’s charming downtown, its restaurants, and the surrounding wineries. In addition to the celebration of wine, visitors can experience local gastronomy, family activities, and the rich heritage of Eger during the most colorful weeks of autumn, spanning an extended holiday weekend.
Wine & Gastronomy Take Over Eger
Throughout the Egri Bikavér Festival, top Eger restaurants offer special dishes expertly paired with Bikavér wines, working closely with selected winemakers. These creative pairings showcase the versatile and bold character of Egri Bikavér, making it the star of unforgettable culinary experiences. The Valley of the Beautiful Woman (Szépasszony-völgy) wine cellars host the much-anticipated Egri Bikavér Grand Tasting on October 17, where local wineries and their guest partners pour their best vintages for everyone to enjoy.
Masterclasses and Celebrations
Wine enthusiasts can register for the Egri Bikavér Masterclass at Petrény Cellar (Petrény Pince) on the same day, sampling award-winning wines while learning from renowned presenters and special guests, who make the class an interactive feast.
The highlight on October 18 takes place in István Dobó Square (Dobó István tér), where a ceremonial cannon blast marks the unveiling of a commemorative plaque for Tibor Gál (Gál Tibor), 2025’s Winemaker of the Year. The day concludes with the induction of new members into the Egri Bikavér Wine Order and a festive toast.
Tours, Family Fun, and the Grand Gala
Guided wine walks on October 19, 24, and 25 weave together Eger’s legendary heroes and landmark sites, with “Géza Gárdonyi” making appearances and six different winemakers offering Bikavér along the route. For families, the Eighth Egri Bikavér Cellar Tour on October 25 in the Valley of the Beautiful Woman (Szépasszony-völgy) brings interactive workshops and games for all generations.
The grand finale, Egri Bikavér Gala Night on October 25 at St. Andrea Estate, features tastings of acclaimed local and international Bikavérs paired with a gourmet feast crafted by chefs Dávid Tóth and Ádám Maksi. The evening’s highlight is the presentation of the prestigious Egri Bikavér Awards.
