Knit together some history and take it home: every Tuesday, the Sóstó Museum Village in Nyíregyháza hosts hands-on weaving workshops at the Beszterec homestead, where everyone leaves with their own “masterpiece.”
In the peasant world, weaving was traditionally women’s work. Even after factory-made textiles spread, people still wove rag blankets from worn-out clothes, turning colorful strips into practical treasures. These bright, sturdy throws covered oven ledges and benches and doubled as blankets or sheets in the stable. Here, learners get the basics by making a small rag rug—simple, sustainable, and very satisfying.
