2025.12.20 (Saturday) — 4028, Kassai út 28., Debrecen. The legendary 100-Member Gypsy Orchestra (100 Tagú Cigányzenekar) marks its 40th anniversary with a Christmas Grand Concert that aims to be anything but ordinary. Sharing the stage: chart-topping guest performer Tamás Horváth (Horváth Tamás), joining the world’s largest gypsy orchestra for a never-before-seen collaboration debuting nationwide at the Főnix Arena (Főnix Aréna).
A 40-Year Milestone
The ensemble, honored with the Hungarian Heritage Award and recognized as an official Hungarikum, steps into its fifth decade with unapologetic flair. Expect a high-voltage mix: classical masterpieces, Hungarian and Roma melodies, plus fiery reimaginings delivered by the orchestra’s virtuoso concertmasters and full symphonic force. Tamás Horváth brings his trademark energy and unique style to light up the fusion.
Sound You Can’t Mistake
Raised from childhood in the hand-to-hand teaching tradition, the musicians preserve a rare performance method that has wowed audiences worldwide for generations. Their sound and orchestrations are unmistakable—crafted, bold, and deeply personal. Every member is a versatile, trained artist fluent across genres, and their playing carries something extra: temperament, freedom, and the shared joy of lifelong ensemble music-making, forging a tangible bond with the audience and a one-of-a-kind atmosphere.
Dynasties and Repertoire
Hungarian Roma musical heritage has been passed down through dynasties for centuries, and many members proudly trace their lineage to distinguished predecessors. The repertoire is rich: selections by Liszt, Bartók, Kodály, Hubay, Erkel, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Sarasate, and Strauss, alongside beloved operetta and folk pieces, Hungarian nóta, and traditional Hungarian Roma music—presented in special, signature arrangements unique to this orchestra.
A National Treasure on Stage
The orchestra won the Hungarian Heritage Award in 2000, entered the Guinness World Records the same year, and on March 18, 2014, joined the Collection of Hungarikums, earning the right to carry the distinguished title “a Hungarikum.” Their tradition-preserving artistry is priceless—and unmatched worldwide.
