Celebrate Nagykörű’s Advent Market: handcrafted gifts, gingerbread decorating, knife-sharpening, local jams, food, and cozy venues on December 21, 2025, near Szolnok by the Tisza River. Family-friendly festivity.
when: 2025.12.21., Sunday
where: 5065 Nagykörű,
🎄
On December 21, Nagykörű throws open its gates for the year’s last festive market, a cheerful close to the From Blossoming to Preserving (Virágzástól Befőzésig) series. From 9:00 to 14:00, the old marketplace hosts makers, growers, and exhibitors with handcrafted goods, plenty of treats, and a warm holiday vibe across multiple spots.
Expect more than stalls: the neighboring courtyard and the foundation/association house add programs and cozy indoor spaces. A charity baking day invites everyone to learn the tricks of decorating mézeskalács (gingerbread)—hands-on, sweet, and very seasonal. For the first time on the square, a knife-sharpening service will be available, so bring those dull blades along.
Food, Drinks, and Local Flavors
Heavenly dishes, exciting desserts, and refreshing drinks await at the village restaurant. The inn offers comfortable guest rooms with private bathrooms and breakfast, while the flavor workshop turns local fruit into standout jams—perfect for gift baskets or your holiday table.
Where and When
Sunday, December 21, 2025, 9:00–14:00, at the old marketplace and neighboring venues in Nagykörű, a small village on the Tisza River, 17.4 miles from Szolnok. Organizer contact: József Barát. The organizers reserve the right to change the time and program.

Pros
+
Family-friendly vibe with gingerbread decorating and cozy indoor spaces that keep kids happy and warm
+
Easygoing hours (9–14) make it a low-stress morning outing before other holiday plans
+
Hands-on local culture—mézeskalács, jams, and village flavors—feels authentic, not tourist-trappy
+
Affordable compared to big-city Christmas markets, with real artisans and growers
+
Lodging and breakfast at the village inn make it simple to turn into a short countryside stay
+
No Hungarian required for basics; market settings usually work fine with smiles, English keywords, and Google Translate
+
Reachable by car from Budapest via M4/Szolnok; parking in villages is typically straightforward - The event and location aren’t internationally famous, so expectations should be modest compared to Budapest/Vienna Christmas markets
Cons
–
Public transport can be slow and involve transfers (Budapest → Szolnok → local bus/taxi), not ideal for tight schedules
–
Limited time window (only five hours, one day) means you could miss it if weather or plans slip
–
Rural setting means fewer backup attractions and English-language services than big-city markets
