Go Behind the Scenes

Find out firsthand how a modern Hungarian craft brewery operates. A brewery team member leads the way, explaining the equipment and ingredients behind their innovative, boundary-pushing beers. Alongside the walkthrough, guests can choose an informal 4 x 6.8 oz tasting. You’ll get to know the uncompromising raw materials of small-batch brewing, explore the technology, the house philosophy, and each step of the brewing process from grain to glass.

From Ingredients to Packaging

In this unique Budapest show brewery, you’ll see everything: the grains and hops, the mash and boil, fermentation, and packaging. If you’re curious how ever-more-special beers are made—and want to taste them—this one’s for you. Before, during, and after the tour, the Taproom connected to the brewery pours fresh, top-tier beers straight from the source.

Arrive Early, Stay Late

About FIRST Craft Beer

Since opening in 2017, FIRST has been brewing nonstop, aiming to become one of Hungary’s leading craft breweries—not just by output and revenue, but by offering a selection that tracks global trends, inspires quality drinking, and keeps innovation and experimentation front and center. Since head brewer Máté Ábrahám arrived in 2018, the team has released an average of more than 25 new beers every year. Most are one-off batches—perfect for showcasing new styles, ingredients, and techniques. Constant experimentation and refined methods have secured FIRST’s place as a key player in Hungarian craft brewing. From long-celebrated IPAs to today’s increasingly popular sours, their award-winning beers have left a mark—and the work goes far beyond brewing. Since the Újpest (New Pest) Taproom opened, tens of thousands have visited for regular brewery tours and tastings led by the team, learning about both the brewing process and modern beer styles. It all supports a simple belief: quality should replace quantity, and beer deserves a rightful place at the center of social life.

Pros
+
Budget-friendly at about $18, including a one-hour tour and a generous 4 x 6.8 oz tasting flight
+
Family-friendliness is decent if you’ve got beer-curious adults and older teens; nonalcoholic swaps are allowed and you can order delivery food to the taproom
+
FIRST is a respected local brewery with lots of experimental styles, so beer nerds get behind-the-scenes access that’s hard to find in the U.S. at this price
+
Budapest is a major European city well-known to U.S. travelers, and the brewery’s Újpest taproom is straightforward to reach by public transport or rideshare
+
English-friendly: staff on tours typically speak English and you don’t need Hungarian to book or participate
+
Easy logistics: multiple weekly time slots and tickets valid for a year, so you can fit it into a Budapest itinerary
+
Compared with brewery tours in other countries, the combo of modern production access, flexible tasting choice, and low cost is strong value - Not ideal for young kids—no hot kitchen, industrial setting, and the focus is beer
Cons
FIRST isn’t an internationally famous brand like Guinness, so it may feel niche if you’re expecting a marquee name
Location is outside the main tourist core; you’ll need to plan the metro/bus or taxi ride and allow extra time to arrive 15 minutes early
You must buy first and book a time slot afterward, which can be awkward if your travel plans are fluid
