Visegrád Knights’ Tournament And Royal Feast
Experience Visegrád’s medieval magic: live knights’ tournament at Solomon Tower, falconry, and a royal feast at Renaissance Restaurant. Family-friendly Saturdays with authentic weapons, pageantry, and hearty Hungarian banquet.
when: 2025.12.27., Saturday
where: 2025 Visegrád, Vár

Every Saturday, Visegrád stages a one-of-a-kind medieval experience: a full-blooded knights’ tournament inside Solomon Tower (Salamon-torony), followed by a regal banquet at the Renaissance Restaurant (Renaissance Étterem). The Saint George Knightly Order revives 14th-century Visegrád with steel-on-steel clashes and courtly pageantry, all with a dash of humor.

At the start, the knights select a king and a queen from the audience, robe and crown them, then parade in at the monarch’s command. Armed with authentic medieval weapons, they show off precision and dueling skills before the royal couple and their guests. Falconry adds a dramatic flourish as a royal hunting hawk slices through the air. The finale lets visitors try historical weapons under the knights’ guidance.

Pros
+
Family-friendly vibe with audience participation (kids can be “royalty” and try safe historical weapons)
+
Clear schedule and compact timing make it easy to plan a Saturday around it
+
Prices are budget-friendly by U.S. standards, especially for the tournament-only option
+
No Hungarian required—performances are visual and staff typically speak basic English
+
Visegrád is a well-known day-trip from Budapest, so it’s on many tourist radars
+
Easy access: frequent buses from Budapest to Visegrád, plus simple driving and parking; short local walks between tower and restaurant
+
Unique compared to many U.S. medieval shows—authentic site (Solomon Tower), real falconry, and hands-on weapon demos - The subject (Hungarian medieval history) isn’t as globally famous as, say, English knights or Renaissance fairs, so context may feel niche
Cons
The exact event name isn’t internationally famous, so you might need to explain it to friends back home
The feast is meat-heavy and beverages aren’t included, so picky eaters or vegetarians may feel limited
Cash is still involved for some payments and schedules can change, which can be inconvenient for tightly planned trips
