Live Medieval Tournament

Members of the Order of Saint George stage a spectacular tourney, showing how warriors fought for the king’s and queen’s favor in 14th-century Visegrád. At the start, the knights choose a king and a queen from the audience, dressing them in royal cloaks and crowning them.
At the king’s command, the knights march in and, with authentic medieval weapons, prove their aim and dueling skills before the royal couple and their guests. Duels are realistic, exciting, and sometimes cheeky, reviving the courage and bravado of medieval knights. A royal falcon flight adds extra flair. At the end, guests can try the weapons with the knights’ help.

Pros
+
Great for kids and multi‑generational groups: audience-picked “king and queen,” falcon show, and hands-on weapon tryouts keep everyone engaged
+
The medieval theme is universally recognizable from movies and games, so you don’t need deep background to enjoy it
+
Visegrád’s Danube Bend setting is a classic Hungarian day-trip spot, scenic and photogenic—easy add-on to a Budapest itinerary
+
Multilingual program (English, German, Italian, Hungarian) means U.S. visitors can follow along without stress
+
Simple pricing and good value for a full show plus a big feast, with discounted kid tickets
+
Reachable from Budapest in about 60–90 minutes by car; public transport options (bus/boat + short walk) make it doable without driving
+
Compared with Renaissance fairs in the U.S., this feels more “in situ” with a real medieval tower backdrop and local knightly order
Cons
Visegrád isn’t as internationally famous as Budapest or Prague castles, so it may require extra planning and research
Minimum 30 guests and email-only booking at the restaurant can be cumbersome; sell-outs likely on peak Saturdays
The feast is meat-heavy and beverages aren’t included, so picky eaters or special diets may feel limited
Public transport can be slower and less direct than U.S. visitors expect, especially on return trips in the evening
