A countryside classic meets spa comfort in Mezőkövesd, where Hajnal Hotel rolls out a live-music, buffet-style pig-slaughter feast on select weekends in 2026. It’s for anyone craving the full, old-school disznótor experience without giving up wellness, comfy rooms, and easygoing hospitality. The event runs January through April and again from October to December, with dates clustered Friday to Sunday—and it only goes ahead with a minimum of 40 guests.

Friday: Warm Welcome, Live Tunes

Check in on Friday and dive straight into a buffet dinner with live music. The spread and the band set the tone: generous plates, clinking glasses, and a sociable, festive atmosphere that carries the weekend. The hotel is at 3400, Hajnal St. 2 (Hajnal u. 2.), and the team keeps things personal and relaxed.

Saturday: The Big Day

Wake up to a traditional kickstart: from 7:00–9:00, ask at reception for one shot of pálinka and one cup of mulled wine per person. Then it’s buffet breakfast from 7:00–10:00.
Midday pulls you straight into classic flavors with a buffet lunch: pork backbone soup with vermicelli and vegetables, toros cabbage, roast pork with potatoes, and fresh strudel. As day slips into evening, the highlight arrives—Disznótor with live music and a stacked buffet dinner: soups, roast meats and spare ribs, blood and liver sausages, onion-mashed potatoes, stuffed cabbage, plus honey cream slice and pudding for dessert. Expect clinking cutlery, full plates, and an unmistakable celebratory mood.

Sunday: Hearty Finish

The weekend wraps with a buffet breakfast featuring cracklings and bacon—rich, rustic, and satisfying, the right note to end a flavor-packed escape.

Wellness Included

Beyond the feast, unwind in the hotel’s wellness area. Between meals, dip into restorative treatments and relaxation spaces—ideal for balancing hearty dining with downtime.

Pros
+
Family-friendly setup with kid discounts, extra beds, and a mellow hotel vibe, so you can bring the whole crew without breaking the bank
+
Wellness access included (pools/relax zones), which balances the heavy disznótor feasting and gives non-foodies something to enjoy
+
The pig-slaughter feast is a uniquely Hungarian, old-school cultural experience that most U.S. travelers won’t find at home
+
Prices are clear and good value for two nights with multiple buffet meals and live music
+
Easy weekend format (Fri–Sun) with lots of 2026 dates, plus optional extra nights and small wellness “gift” treatments if you extend
+
No deposit and broad payment options on-site make booking low-risk and flexible for foreign visitors
+
Mezőkövesd is near the famous Matyó folk-art town and close to Eger/Tokaj regions, so you can combine it with other classic Hungary stops
Cons
The whole theme (pig-slaughter foods, blood/liver sausages) isn’t vegetarian- or squeamish-friendly, so picky eaters may struggle
Mezőkövesd isn’t a globally famous destination; you’ll likely need to explain to friends it’s a rural spa town, not Budapest
English may be limited; basic Hungarian phrases help, especially for the niche food names and the “request at reception” perks
Getting there is easier by car; by public transport you’ll likely take a Budapest–Mezőkövesd train/bus combo and a short taxi to the hotel
