Woody Allen’s Brooklyn Tale Gets World Premiere
Brooklyn Tale (Brooklyni mese) – Orlai Produkció
January 6, 2026, Tuesday, 7:00 p.m.
Comedy – Orlai Produkció – Kálmán Imre season
Can art make us better? Can perfection steer sinners straight? Woody Allen chased those questions when, stuck at home during the pandemic, he wrote a new play about a gangster family and a stolen Raphael painting Europe is hunting for. A slick fence slides in, and soon the masterpiece is hanging in the mob boss’s room. Then what? How does owning one of the world’s greatest works change everyone in its orbit?
Allen’s signature humor and keen eye for human weakness and grandeur set the tone. A point of pride: this production is a world premiere—the first audience anywhere is in Hungary.
Audience reactions: Comedy in a jazz rhythm, with standout performances.

Márai’s Exile, Conscience, and Homeland
Rékasi Károly – Lélekablak – The Price of Freedom
January 22, 2026, Thursday, 6:00 p.m. – Day of Hungarian Culture
A one-part Sándor Márai evening (60 minutes). “Now we must remain strong, whatever comes.” Sándor Márai (1900–1989) wrote across genres and endured tragic turns. This staged reading dives into his post-1948 exile, after a decade of triumph between the wars, charting the artist torn from Hungarian readers, history, culture, and language. Who is he writing for, and why? How can he keep a nation-shaping mission alive as the bourgeois world disintegrates? An uncompromising conscience wrestles with homesickness that never fades entirely. A portrait of a towering figure’s decades-long struggle—and a hymn to love of country, worry, and hope. Any echoes to today are purely coincidental. Compiled from Márai’s writings by Koltay Gábor; music editor Tóth Zoltán; performed by actor Rékasi Károly.
Girls’ Night Gone Wild—With Republic’s Songs
Lánybúcsú (Bachelorette Party) – musical
January 24, 2026, Saturday, 7:00 p.m.
Liliom Produkció’s new musical follows four forty-something childhood friends—Alíz, Bella, Petra, and Laura—on a girls’ getaway in a Balaton Uplands (Balaton-felvidék) villa. Plans unravel fast: the actress-mother homeowner and the housekeeper Erzsike (practically family) have no idea the party’s on. Unexpected guests cascade in, plus guests of guests, and those no one expected—or some had long awaited. Out comes the bubbly and everything else, and the secrets start tumbling from closets. Laura’s “special” cake only complicates things. The women, plus Erzsike, try to untangle the mess—not very successfully—until András arrives to set it right. The show lands with extra punch thanks to the songs of Bódi László, “Cipő,” and Republic: The Whale Flies (Repül a bálna), Fly Away, Little Bird (Szállj el kismadár), It Might Be Easy for You (Neked könnyű lehet), and more.
