Musical Fairy Tales Take the Stage

On Monday, January 19, at 10:00 and again at 14:00, the Fellegjárók Társulat brings Ervin Lázár’s The Seven-Headed Fairy (A hétfejű tündér) to life as a 60-minute musical tale at the Kálmán Imre Cultural Center theater hall. The production is part of the Kisvakond pass series. It returns Tuesday, January 20, at 10:00 under the Kisvakond II pass. Expect a tight, tuneful staging sized perfectly for school audiences in Siófok.

Culture Day: Chase Winter Away

Also on January 19, the BRTK Library’s children’s section hosts Winter-Scaring (Télűzés) with author Viktória Takács to mark the Day of Hungarian Culture. Interactive reader–writer sessions run at 13:30 and 16:30, exploring the roots of winter-scaring folk traditions through two special books. Group registrations are welcome. Location: BRTK Library, children’s department, Fő tér 2., 8600 Siófok.

Puppet Village Build

Puppet Story Village (Bábos Mesefalva) lands at the BRTK Library children’s section on Wednesday, January 28, and Thursday, January 29, 09:00–15:00 both days. Kids will co-create Puppet Story Village, building towns and moving in their favorite characters. Each session runs 1.5–2 hours and blends craft and simple tech, while groups shape the story as they construct the village. Address: Fő tér 2., 8600 Siófok.

Carnival Beats and Costumes

Friday, January 30, brings Géza Áprily’s It’s Carnival, Let’s Dance, a musical, interactive show at 10:30 and 16:30 in the BRTK Library children’s department—free entry. Between 15:00 and 17:00 the same day, the library throws its 2026 Farsang Party (Farsangi buli). Come in costume; dressed-up guests get a small library surprise. Free entry, Fő tér 2.

On Saturday, January 31, at 10:30, Pesti Művész Színház presents Rumini on Ferrit Island (Rumini Ferrit-szigeten), a two-part musical tale at the Kálmán Imre Cultural Center. The sailor-mouse hero and crew face the deadly trap of Ferrit Island’s wicked mistress, escaping only through cunning, ingenuity, and courage. Recommended from age four. Pros
+
Super family-friendly: puppet villages, musical fairy tales, ice rink, ferris wheel, bumper cars—lots for different ages
+
Easy to plan a winter escape: events run late Dec–early Feb, with bonus spring happenings if you return
+
Many activities are free or low-cost (library shows, Farsang party), so budgeting’s easier
+
Location on Lake Balaton adds a scenic winter vibe and big seasonal playground feel
+
Multiple venues clustered around central Siófok (Kálmán Imre Cultural Center, BRTK Library, Nagystrand) make venue-hopping simple
+
Public transit is workable: trains run from Budapest to Siófok; driving the M7 is straightforward and parking’s generally manageable off peak
+
Unique local flavor (folk traditions like Télűzés and Rumini/Ervin Lázár stories) you won’t get in typical Western Europe kid festivals
Cons
English isn’t guaranteed: many shows and workshops are Hungarian-first, so non-Hungarian speakers may miss nuances
Siófok is well-known to Hungarians but less famous to U.S. tourists than Budapest or Vienna, so you’ll do more self-planning
Getting there takes a transfer/extra leg from the U.S.: fly to Budapest, then 1.5–2 hours by train or car
Compared with big U.S./UK theme-park winter events, production scale is smaller and schedules can change last-minute
