January marks the 85th birthday of Hayao Miyazaki, the two-time Oscar-winning master of Japanese animation. To celebrate, Tabán Cinema is rolling out a four-film series for Studio Ghibli diehards and anyone ready to dive into Miyazaki’s spellbinding worlds. Screenings run on Mondays from January 5 to January 26, 2026.
Four Mondays, Four Classics
It kicks off on January 5 with The Boy and the Heron (A fiú és a szürke gém), Miyazaki’s late-career triumph that blends loss, courage, and surreal wonder. On January 12, catch Spirited Away (Chihiro Szellemországban), the beloved odyssey through a spirit realm that won him his first Oscar. January 19 brings Howl’s Moving Castle (A vándorló palota), a soaring anti-war fairy tale powered by a walking home and a haunted heart. The series wraps on January 26 with Kiki’s Delivery Service (Kiki, a boszorkányfutár), a gentle coming-of-age story about independence, craft, and a flying broom.
