when: 2026.09.19., Saturday
where: 7045 Györköny, Művelődési ház

Györköny throws open its cellars on Saturday, September 19, 2026, for the beloved Harvest Festival (Szüreti Mulatság), an all-day celebration at the Cultural Center (Művelődési Ház), 7045. Expect tastings, local flavors, and a deep dive into one of Hungary’s most atmospheric wine villages.

Wine, food, and a village built on cellars

On the edge of the Cellar Village (Pincefalu), Wein & Speiz Inn blends modern comfort with a rustic village vibe, driven by Swabian recipes passed down through generations. In the heart of the Györköny Cellar Hill (Pincehegy), two press houses and the connecting cellar handle winemaking from preparation to aging and storage. Whites include Irsai Olivér and Cserszegi Fűszeres; reds lean heavily on Blaufränkisch (Kékfrankos), with a Blaufränkisch rosé in the lineup. Group tastings and wine dinners are available. The guesthouse accommodates up to 43 guests, and events for 10 to 110 people are welcomed.

Explore one of Hungary’s most cohesive cellar villages

Györköny’s Cellar Hill (Pincehegy) in Tolna County features more than 300 press houses strung along winding lanes shaded by walnut trees. Local grapes: Blaufränkisch (Kékfrankos), Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Italian Riesling (Olaszrizling), Cserszegi Fűszeres.

Cellar-to-bottle craft

A local winery ferments its harvest with modern technology, ages in oak, and bottles on-site. Core grapes: Blaufränkisch (Kékfrankos), Rubintos, Cabernet Sauvignon. A new wine house and gallery, a 650-foot walk away, hosts up to 150 for family events, tastings, and team-building.

Organizers reserve the right to change the schedule and date.

Pros
+
Family-friendly vibe with an all-day festival format, spacious cellar lanes, and room for strollers and kids to roam while adults taste
+
Unique cellar village setting (300+ press houses) makes it feel like a living museum, not just another wine fair
+
Easy entry point to Hungarian wine styles you might not see often in the U.S. (Irsai Olivér, Cserszegi Fűszeres, Kékfrankos) with guided tastings and wine dinners
+
On-site guesthouse capacity (up to 43 beds) and venues for groups make planning for families or friend groups straightforward
+
Authentic Swabian-Hungarian food angle at Wein & Speiz Inn adds comfort-food appeal between tastings
+
Budget-friendlier than big-name European wine regions, with a local, un-touristy feel
+
A new wine house and gallery close by offers weather-safe space for events and larger gatherings - Györköny and Tolna County aren’t internationally famous, so U.S. visitors may have little context compared to Tokaj or Budapest
Cons
Hungarian language helps; some English is likely in hospitality, but signage and village interactions may be mostly Hungarian
Public transport can be fiddly: expect train/bus combos and a final walk or taxi; self-driving is easier but a designated driver is essential
Compared to marquee harvest festivals in France/Italy, the scale and entertainment lineup are smaller and schedules may shift (organizers can change date)
