Szombathely’s flea market is back in full swing every Sunday from 5:00 to 12:00 at the Market Hall (Vásárcsarnok), drawing early birds, bargain hunters, and collectors to rummage through a treasure trove of retro finds, antiques, books, and handmade goods. It’s the kind of place where you’ll spot something you didn’t know you needed—and won’t find in a regular store. Sustainability fans get a bonus: secondhand fashion and accessories at a fraction of normal prices while cutting waste. Just show up, wander, haggle, and let the surprises bring a little magic home.
Where and when to dive in
The market spreads across Hall II on the north side of the Market Hall (Vásárcsarnok), under the canopy, and the small hall off Hunyadi Street (Hunyadi út). Every Sunday, 5:00 a.m. to noon, it’s the Flea Market (Zsibvásár)—the city’s longstanding used-goods bazaar. And there’s more: Sunday is big ZSIBI, Wednesday brings MINI ZSIBI—a midweek shot of treasure hunting to keep the momentum going. Upcoming Sunday dates are set for 2026.02.01, 2026.02.08, 2026.02.15, and 2026.02.22—all in Szombathely. Organizers reserve the right to change dates and programs, so it pays to keep an eye out for updates.
How to sell your stuff
Vendors can register on-site by filling out a registration form or download it from the website and send it back via email by Wednesday at 12:00 noon. If you’ve submitted your form—by email or in person—you’ll only get a reply if there aren’t enough tables left. No message means you’re good to go. Just show up by 6:00 a.m. at the market supervisor’s desk to secure your spot and set up.
What you’ll find
This is where retro electronics meet classic vinyl, where vintage lamps, ceramics, and curiosities rub shoulders with collectible books and quirky handmade crafts. Fashion is a big draw too—expect stylish secondhand pieces and accessories, often in mint condition, for pocket-change prices. Whether you’re furnishing a flat with character or hunting for a one-off gift, the flea market reliably serves up surprises.
Plan your weekend around it
If you’re making a weekend of it, Szombathely has no shortage of stays. On the city’s eastern side in a green belt, a friendly guesthouse offers easy access—there’s a local bus stop just 394 feet away—and a gated parking lot for about 30 cars. Expect home-style dishes at fair prices and simple, cozy rooms. Private rooms are available for family events, weddings, and gatherings.
Sleep over Roman style
Forum Hotel and Restaurant leans into the city’s ancient Roman roots. Its two-level restaurant channels the era’s ambiance while meeting modern expectations with Hungarian and international classics. Above the dining rooms, the hotel welcomes both business guests and tourists.
Lake views and wellness nearby
Garda Hotel sits near the Boating Lake, steps from the city’s Indoor Pool and Thermal Bath, and a short walk from the restored Lake Bath (Tófürdő) beach. Room choices range from larger, air-conditioned, elegant options to smaller, budget-friendly rooms.
Group stays and green retreat
House of Herény (Herényiek Háza), right by the famous Kámon Arboretum (Kámoni Arborétum) in the Herény district, offers community-style lodging in a building renovated in 2007 to evoke an ancient Roman villa. Rent smaller or larger halls for family or corporate events. The landscaped garden, oven, covered garden house, and indoor-outdoor games make downtime easy—and you can rent bikes.
Boutique comfort and rehab
Király Park Hotel, a four-star stay in a quiet garden district, has 16 comfortable rooms in a modern yet homey building. It’s geared for business travelers, sports teams, leisure groups, and events. The Király Rehab Center provides wide-ranging medical services, while the wellness area includes Finnish, infrared, and steam saunas, a plunge pool, and a jacuzzi. Parking is free, with over 100 spaces.
Classic motel vibe
Sunset Motel brings American roadside style to Szombathely with European comforts, wrapped in a beautiful garden. It’s easy to reach from any direction and delivers hotel-level services at a friendly price.
City eats to refuel
108 Restaurant tips its hat to Gábor Király’s 108 caps for the Hungarian national team, with a menu drawing on European and Mediterranean flavors alongside traditional fare. Weekday lunch menus keep things lively, and the wine and drinks list is smartly curated. In the city center, a cultural hub pairs new-release films with a stylish café serving specialty coffee, drinks, and dishes, plus live music on a summer terrace—also a top concert venue.
More bites and sips
Inside the Artis Hotel, a sleek, youthful restaurant focuses on fresh, healthy ingredients and modern techniques. In the DOMUS Department Store in Derkovits, a cafeteria serves daily specials with old-school flavors and modern textures. Il Gallo Nero Restaurant and Guesthouse sits just a short walk from the historic downtown, while other kitchens turn out Hungarian specialties, standout fish and game, and options for modern diets—often with live music on Saturdays and weekends. A renewed kitchen highlights homestyle dishes, draft beers, special wines, and soft drinks.
Save room for dessert
For decades, Mészáros has been the city’s go-to for cakes, pastries, and ice cream—the kind of place locals send you when you ask where to make life sweeter. End your market morning there before packing up your finds and plotting your next ZSIBI run.
