What Happens on Sundays

The program dives into holidays, mitzvot, and tradition through age-based activities—mixing play, creativity, storytelling, and values that shape everyday life. Whether little or teen, pre- or post-Bar/Bat Mitzvah, there’s a place designed for you.

Group I: Ages 4–6 – “Hullám Group”

On green-themed Sundays, Jewish stories and heroes come alive through games, laughter, and plenty of crafts. Expect discovery, tales, creating, and bonding into a real little community.
Time: Sundays, 10:00–12:15

Group II: Ages 7–9

Count on crafting, Jewish stories, games, and an upbeat vibe. The team can’t wait to meet as many smiling “little seashells” as possible from September.
Time: Sundays, 10:00–12:15

Group III: Ages 10–11 – “Yam Group”

A tight-knit community where you can create, play, laugh, and explore. Jewish stories, crafts, new friends, and good cheer—plenty to go around. Sundays together can’t come soon enough.
Time: Sundays, 10:00–12:15

Group IV: Ages 12–13 – Bar/Bat Mitzvah Club

The BMC kicks off with high energy, laughter, and good vibes. For those stepping toward adulthood and into official community membership, with conversations about Jewish values, traditions, and your own questions. Expect games, crafts, shared thinking, experiential programs, creative challenges, and varied project tasks.
Time: Sundays, 10:00–12:15

Group V: Ages 13–14 – Madrich Training

In the MKZ group, future madrichim train weekly—learning how to model, lead, and teach. Sessions cover children’s needs and development and how to support them as madrichim, all in a warm, Jewish spirit.

Pros
+
Super family-friendly: kids 4–14 get age-based groups, crafts, games, and a positive community vibe
+
Short, predictable time slot (Sundays 10:00–12:15), easy to fit around sightseeing
+
Topic is approachable even if you’re not deeply observant—focus on holidays, mitzvot, stories, and values
+
Location on the Újpest Embankment is in central Budapest, close to the Danube, with good city transport and rideshare coverage
+
No deep Hungarian needed—Jewish community programs in Budapest often accommodate English; staff likely used to international families
+
Great cultural insight for American Jewish families traveling with kids, comparable to synagogue Sunday schools back home
+
Safer, calmer alternative to big-ticket tourist attractions when kids need a low-key, meaningful activity - Not a mainstream tourist attraction; more a local community school, so it’s less “wow” than famous Budapest sights
Cons
English-language certainty isn’t guaranteed—confirm beforehand or you may hit language hiccups
Limited hours and specific dates mean it may not line up with a short trip
Less convenient by car due to urban parking; public transit is easier but requires navigation with kids in tow
