Budapest’s Museum of the National Assembly is rolling out free guided tours every Saturday for the exhibition “A magyar törvényhozás ezer éve” (A Thousand Years of Hungarian Legislation). The 45-minute tours start at 10:00 a.m. from the Parliament Visitor Centre at Kossuth Lajos Square (Kossuth Lajos tér) 1–3 in District V, Belváros–Lipótváros. The exhibition is continuously updated, giving returning visitors new angles to explore.
What the exhibition covers
Organized in eight chronological chapters, the exhibition traces the roots, formation, and evolution of Hungarian parliamentarism from the Middle Ages to the democratic transition. The opening section follows the story from the earliest assemblies up to the era of the estates-based Diets. The second unit runs up to 1918, charting the birth of the modern parliament—from reform-era assemblies and the rise of popular representation to the consolidation of a new parliamentary order. The third part explores the turbulent path between 1918 and 1990, marked by searches for direction and restarts.
