Budapest fires up the grills March 6–8 as the Mangalica and Aspic Festival takes over the event grounds next to World Mall (Világjáró Bevásárlóközpont), at Szentmihályi út 167–169 in District 15. For three days, plates overflow with mangalica pork classics, shimmering aspic (kocsonya), and all things pork knuckle (csülök), served crispy, braised, smoked, oven-baked “péknél,” and folded into inventive knuckle specials. It’s a full-on celebration of robust Hungarian flavors, made for cold-weather comfort and long chats with friends.
What to Eat and Drink
Expect a pork knuckle paradise: crackling-skinned knuckles, slow-cooked slabs, aromatic smokehouse cuts, and bakery-pan roasts. Mangalica stars in sausages, stews, and sizzling bites, with aspic glinting on ice. To sip: steaming mulled wine, fiery pálinka, and other indulgent pours that pair perfectly with rich pork and festive music.
Live Demos, Music, and Makers
Catch live sausage-stuffing sessions showing how fresh kolbász comes together, then taste it on the spot. All-day live music fuels the festival vibe, while kids dive into dedicated programs. Hungarian artisans pack the craft stalls with handmade goods, turning the food crawl into a browse-and-bite adventure.
