Gyomaendrőd rolls out a lively, year-round lineup in 2026: festivals, concerts, exhibitions, community gatherings. It’s a sweet spot for families, culture lovers, and anyone chasing good vibes and local flavor.
February: Ceramics, Comedy, and Commemoration
February 16 opens with “Lelkem zöldjei…” (Greens of My Soul), a ceramics exhibition by Mezőtúr potter Erika Patkós. Museum director and museologist Zsolt Pusztai from the Mezőtúr Pottery Museum (Túri Fazekas Múzeum) cuts the ribbon. Entry is free.
On February 18, it’s “Hajdu you do?” — stand-up by actor-comedian Steve Hajdu. The one-hour set riffs on hilarious cultural mix-ups with his English wife, Alexandra, plus takes on theater and a passion for the stage. A musical, comic night with carefree laughter guaranteed. Tickets: 2,000 HUF (about 5.50 USD). Advance purchase required.
February 25 brings a remembrance for the Victims of the Communist Dictatorship at the Municipal Public Cemetery (Gyoma).
On February 28 at 3 p.m., “Because It’s Good to Live With This Childlike Faith,” a literary afternoon, marks writer-poet István Csukás’s 90th birthday.
March: Theater, Markets, History, and Hands-On Culture
March 4: The Déryné Company (Déryné Társulat) stages I Can’t Live Without Music (Nem élhetek muzsikaszó nélkül) at the Ferenc Kállai Integrated Cultural Institution and Community Center.
March 8: National animal and flea market.
March 10: Book launch and meet-up with Tünde Frankó—mother of three; graduate in healthcare and early childhood education; self-knowledge and communication trainer with nearly 20 years in support work. Her book My Mother’s Tear (Anyám könnye) threads raw, personal stories of her grandmother, mother, and herself, confronting inherited family wounds and how voicing them can free the next generation. It’s both a confession and a guide toward healing.
March 14: City celebration for the 1848–49 Revolution and War of Independence. Speeches by Mayor Balázs Toldi and MP Béla Dankó; program by students of Gyomaendrőd’s Kis Bálint Primary School. A torchlight procession sets out from the community center to the Heroes’ Memorial, followed by wreath-laying. Also on March 14: “When the Screen Speaks, Children Listen” — a talk by speech therapist Mária Farkas at OMart Bookshop and Cultural Workshop.
March 20: Commemoration for victims of the Endrőd gendarme volley at St. Emeric (Szent Imre) Catholic Church.
March 21: Kalap Jakab’s roaring family concert blends live music and puppetry, with limited seating and a big dance floor. Tickets: 1,000 HUF (about 2.75 USD). Same day: March Museum Teaser — the 30th Infantry Battalion and the 16th Károlyi Hussar Regiment come alive with a weapon inspection, a hussar attire showcase, and a creative workshop, “Create in Red-White-Green.” Entry: 525 HUF per person (about 1.45 USD), free under 6. In partnership with the Békés County Károlyi Hussar and Honvéd Heritage and Cultural Association.
March 27–28: World Water Day — “Dreaming of Waters…” National Youth Art Contest, exhibition opening, and awards at the Béla Vidovszky City Gallery. Also listed March 31–April 4, April 7–11, and April 14–17 at the same venue, keeping the showcase running across weeks.
March 28: “Andalgó” — a musical storytelling evening with the ProVocal Chamber Choir and storyteller Marcsi Giriczné Gyányi at OMart. March 31: “Do You Really Love Me? War and Peace in the Living Room” at the Győző Határ City Library.

April 4: Easter playhouse at the St. Anthony People’s House (Szent Antal Népház). April 11: “Hangraforgó Hums Through the Grass…” — Poetry Day with Győr’s Hangraforgó verse-singing band at OMart. Also April 11: The Little Rooster’s Diamond Halfpenny (A kiskakas gyémánt félkrajcárja) — a colorful Turkish-palace fable unfolds as an old prisoner retells the banned tale where the Sultan gets his comeuppance, bringing to life the clash of the Little Rooster and a greedy emperor.

Free stargazing with an outdoor film screening and a telescope on site; a paid stargazer night boat cruise on the Körös River (Hármas-Körös). The buffet stays open all evening. August 9: National animal and flea market. August 15: OMart Musical Summer 6 — “An Evening in the Spinning Room,” featuring the Vésztő Women’s Zither Ensemble.
