Budapest Hosts Balázs Fülei’s Story-Driven Piano Nights

Experience Balázs Fülei’s story-driven piano nights across Hungary: dual pianos, premieres, Bach to Mozart. Budapest highlight on Feb 23, plus “Listen to Fülei!” series in Bánk. Tickets from $9.60.
when: 2026. February 21., Saturday

Balázs Fülei, the Liszt, Artisjus, and Junior Prima Award–winning pianist, brings a chain of musical stories to stages across Hungary in 2026. Known for programs that weave narrative and nuance, and for personal spoken introductions that cast classical music in a fresh light, he pairs concerto depth with intimate exploration—anchored by a rare breadth of repertoire that spans more than thirty piano concertos, including the complete works for piano and orchestra by Beethoven, Brahms, and Bartók.

Budapest highlight: dual pianos, bold premieres

On February 23, 2026, in Budapest, Masanori Sugano and Balázs Fülei join the Budapest Strings (concertmaster: János Pilz) for a finely tuned dialogue between Baroque clarity, Romantic fire, and contemporary spark. The program opens with Mendelssohn’s Symphony for Strings in B minor, then moves to J. S. Bach’s Concerto in C minor for two harpsichords, BWV 1060. A world premiere follows: András Gábor Virágh’s Round for Two Pianos and String Orchestra, written to energize the twin-keyboard format with a modern pulse. After intermission, Bach returns with the Concerto in C minor for two harpsichords, BWV 1062, and Mozart caps the night with the dazzling Concerto in E-flat major for Two Pianos and Orchestra, K. 365. Venue: 1061 Budapest, District VI – Terézváros, Liszt Ferenc Square (Liszt Ferenc tér) 8. Ticket range: approximately 16.20–29.90 USD.

“Listen to Fülei!” in Bánk

From March to June, the series “Hallgasson Füleire!” (Listen to Fülei!) turns concerts into shared voyages, guided by Fülei’s hands and words. As head of department at the Liszt Academy, he breaks down the barrier between stage and seats, inviting audiences to listen with all five senses—through familiar and lesser-known piano works that breathe in real time. Dates: March 8, April 5, May 17, and June 7, 2026. Location: 2653 Bánk. Ticket range: about 9.60–10.70 USD.

Pros
+
Family-friendly vibe with spoken intros that make classical pieces easy to follow for kids and first-timers
+
Internationally relatable repertoire (Bach, Mozart, Mendelssohn) mixed with a cool world premiere keeps it engaging even if you’re not a classical buff
+
Budapest and Liszt Ferenc Square are well-known to tourists, with tons of cafes and sights right around the venue
+
No Hungarian needed—music is universal and Fülei’s style is welcoming; basics in English usually get you through ticketing and venues
+
Easy logistics in Budapest: central location, good public transit, and rideshares; driving and parking are doable with planning
+
Ticket prices are great value compared to big-name concerts in the U.S., especially given the artists and orchestra
+
Compared to piano nights abroad, the dual-piano focus and artist talk-throughs feel more intimate and story-driven than many large U.S. halls
Cons
Bánk dates are in a small town less known to foreign visitors, so you’ll need extra planning and likely a car or regional bus
The artist’s international name recognition isn’t on the level of marquee U.S.-touring stars, which may matter to brand-focused travelers
Some spoken segments could be in Hungarian at smaller venues, so non-speakers might miss a bit of context
Program or date changes are possible, so flexible plans and notifications are a must
