From March 19–22, 2026, Budapest’s City Park landmark Vajdahunyad Castle transforms into a tropical dreamscape for the Orchidea és Bromélia Kiállítás (Orchid and Bromeliad Exhibition). Hosted by the Hungarian Orchid Society, the beloved spring show returns with an exotic twist: Brazil is the guest country, bringing a burst of Atlantic Forest, Amazon, and Cerrado magic to the heart of Zugló.
The first floor hosts the curated orchid exhibition; the ground floor becomes a bustling marketplace. Expect a huge lineup: orchids, bromeliads, tillandsias, tropicals, bougainvilleas, other exotic and Mediterranean plants, plus succulents, rock-garden favorites, and flower bulbs. Hungarian collectors, exhibitors, and vendors will be on site, so you won’t just admire—you can take plants home.
Tradition holds: the Hungarian Orchid Society’s president and a guest of honor open the 2026 spring edition at Vajdahunyad Castle. Doors are open daily from 10:00 to 18:00. The first floor is all about show-stopping displays; the ground floor is the retail zone with a deep, irresistible selection for every budget and skill level, from first-time orchid adopters to seasoned collectors.
Friday and Saturday spotlight hands-on knowledge. Expect repotting advice, practical tips, fresh ideas, and focused talks across different themes. A showy floral design demonstration adds flair, revealing how to build eye-catching arrangements and keep them thriving at home. Sunday offers full access: exhibition upstairs, shopping downstairs.
Each year, the show features a different country’s orchid riches; in 2026 it’s Brazil, one of the planet’s biodiversity giants. Brazil is home to more than 2,500 orchid species, with many more still undescribed in unexplored wilderness. It hosts 202 native genera, 23 of them endemic—meaning they grow in a narrowly defined area and nowhere else. By endemic count, Brazil ranks second globally, with 1,540 endemic orchid species. The Atlantic Forest leads with 1,398 species, followed by the Amazon with 784 and the Cerrado with 656. Visitors will recognize stars like Cattleya (including the former Sophronitis and Laelia now folded into Cattleya), alongside Epidendrum, Maxillaria, Miltonia, Oncidium, Phragmipedium, Stanhopea, and more. Fittingly, Brazil’s national flower is an orchid: Cattleya purpurata (formerly Laelia purpurata).
