Budapest’s iconic Gellért Bath and Hotel stands silent now—its glittering balls, wartime tales, wave pool thrills, Gundel restaurant artistry, famous guests, and movie shoots all echo in the halls. But is it truly empty? For a playful hour or two, the building’s past stirs back to life in an immersive time-travel performance by Imagine Budapest.
Guided by the memories of an imaginary chambermaid, eras unfold: from the Gobelin Hall drift music and the shuffle of dance steps, while Károly Gundel keeps setting down dazzling new creations. Outside, a young girl dives headfirst into the wave pool; in the lobby, Antal Páger quietly reads his paper. We wander candle-bright corridors in our minds, sip a hot black at the espresso bar, and stretch out in one of the fairy-tale warm pools—becoming guests of the house for a brief, enchanted pause.
