Visegrád’s live-history season is back: every Saturday at noon in 2026, the city’s Palace House (Palotaház) hosts the high-energy Visegrád Knight Games (Visegrádi Lovagi Játékok) with a lavish feast at the Renaissance Restaurant (Renaissance Étterem). Registration and payment are handled exclusively at the Renaissance Restaurant, with sign-up via email.

Where and when

Guaranteed showtime: every Saturday at 12:00. Location: Palace House (Palotaház), Visegrád, Duna-parti út 1. Additional scheduled dates: 2026.02.24., 2026.02.26., 2026.02.28., all in Visegrád. Organizers reserve the right to change dates and program.

What to expect

Members of the Order of Saint George (Szent György) stage a spectacular 14th‑century-style tournament, showing how warriors vied for the king’s and queen’s favor in medieval Visegrád. At the start, the knights pick a king and queen from the audience, robe and crown them, then parade in to demonstrate marksmanship and combat skills with period weapons—realistic, thrilling, and often witty duels included. A royal hunting falcon takes flight to amp up the drama. At the end, guests can try medieval weapons with help from the knights. The show runs in Hungarian, German, English, and Italian; other languages are available with an interpreter. Groups of 30+ can book custom times.

Schedule and feast

12:00 Historical briefing in Solomon Tower (Salamon-torony), then rooftop visit. 12:30 Tournament demonstration by Solomon Tower with drinks (white wine, apple juice). 13:30 Royal feast at the Renaissance Restaurant: creamy tarragon venison ragout soup with onion potato dumplings; whole roasted turkey leg, honey-glazed pork ribs, panko-crusted chicken fillet, potato “petals,” chive mayo, honey-smoky sauce, apple-braised cabbage; ice cream sundae. Drinks not included.

Pros
+
Family-friendly medieval fun with audience participation (kids can be “royalty” and try safe versions of weapons)
+
Runs every Saturday at noon all year, so it’s easy to slot into a Danube Bend day trip
+
Multilingual show (Hungarian, German, English, Italian) makes it very accessible for U.S. visitors
+
Good value for a full program plus big feast for roughly $39 adults/$19 kids
+
Easy day trip from Budapest by car (about an hour) and doable by public transport via train+bus or boat in season
+
Visegrád is a scenic, castle-topped town on the Danube Bend—famous locally and a common add-on to Budapest itineraries
+
Comparable to Renaissance fairs or jousting dinners in the U.S., but with authentic sites (Solomon Tower) and Hungarian twist (falconry, local dishes) - Registration and payment only through the Renaissance Restaurant by email can feel clunky vs. instant online booking
Cons
Drinks at the feast aren’t included, so costs can creep up
Visegrád isn’t as internationally famous as Budapest or Prague, so some context may be needed for kids/first-timers
Public transport involves transfers and fixed schedules; driving or guided tours are simpler for most visitors
