Budapest’s Zsilip Center is rolling out a warm, kid-first lineup of Jewish learning and play through spring 2026 at its two-story Zsiliputi Playhouse and study spaces. Families will find Friday night mini–Shabbat welcomes for children alongside teachings for adults, plus a revamped Sunday Jewish School that turns tradition into games, crafts, songs, and age-based discovery. All events take place at 1137 Budapest, 13th District, Újpesti rakpart 1.
On select Fridays, the Zsilip team hosts a cozy, kid-friendly Shabbat welcome at the Zsiliputi Playhouse while adults join Rabbi Glitzi’s teaching in the synagogue. Children are guided by a madricha through playful sessions about the weekly Torah portion, Shabbat, and the current holiday cycle. Visuals, stories, and plenty of games keep the little ones engaged. There’s a sweet bonus for good listeners, and yes, even a raffle to cap things off. The invitation is simple: bring the whole family and let everyone learn on Shabbat.
Dates already on the calendar include Friday, February 27, 2026, then March 6 and March 13, 2026. Each “Péntekecske péntek este” aims to make Shabbat welcoming, understandable, and fun for kids while adults dive deeper into learning with the rabbi. Expect a warm community vibe, accessible explanations, and activities that help children connect rituals with meaning.
Sunday mornings are back at Zsilip with the renewed Zsiliputi Zsidó Vasárnapi Iskola (Zsiliputi Jewish Sunday School). The program returns to the two-floor playhouse and study rooms, drawing on a long tradition that left kids buzzing for years about their shared games and playful learning. The refreshed format runs from 10:00 to 12:30 and welcomes ages 4 to 14, including teens in training and those heading toward their Bar/Bat Mitzvah.
What to expect? Age-group sessions where kids prepare together for upcoming holidays, learn about mitzvot, and get to know core traditions. The goal is to practice the values that accompany Jewish life, all through hands-on, engaging activities. The energy is young and enthusiastic, the structure is clear, and the atmosphere is all about shared discovery. Whether you’re little or almost a teen, just starting out or on the cusp of being a youth leader, the Sunday School is designed with you in mind.
Upcoming Sunday dates include March 1, March 8, and March 15, 2026, all in Budapest at the Zsilip Center. The schedule is consistent—10:00 to 12:30—and the content adapts to the calendar, spotlighting the weekly parasha, Shabbat, and the season’s holidays. Expect crafts, stories, songs, and small-group projects that turn concepts into lived experience.
