when: 2026. March 2., Monday

Visegrád’s blockbuster medieval program is back in 2026, with guaranteed shows every Saturday and occasional extra dates during the week. The Order of Saint George (Szent György) stages a live knight tournament at Solomon Tower (Salamon), paired with a lavish royal banquet at the Renaissance Restaurant (Renaissance Étterem). Guests are welcomed to the city’s favorite time travel: steel clashes, falcons soar, and a king and queen are crowned from the audience before the games begin.

Where and when

Every Saturday at Solomon Tower (Salamon). Meet at 12:00 at the tower entrance. Additional dates are announced throughout the season; organizers reserve the right to change times and programs.

What happens

Knights in full medieval kit compete to win the favor of the freshly crowned royal couple. The duels are realistic, thrilling, and sprinkled with humor, showcasing 14th-century Visegrád-style bravery. A royal hunting falcon takes flight during the show. At the end, guests can handle and try medieval weapons with the knights’ help.

Pros
+
Super family-friendly: live knights, falcon flying, and audience crowning keep kids and adults hooked
+
Easy on the wallet versus U.S. medieval shows: ~$10 tourney or ~$38 with feast is great value
+
English not essential: visual action, simple cues, and staff at tourist spots usually speak basic English
+
Visegrád is a classic Danube Bend day trip near Budapest, so it’s on many foreign visitors’ radar
+
Easy to reach: frequent trains/buses/boats from Budapest; driving is straightforward with Danube views
+
Hands-on extras (hold medieval weapons) make it feel more authentic than many staged jousts in the U.S.
+
The setting—Solomon Tower plus a Renaissance-themed feast—beats generic fairground venues
Cons
International name recognition is modest; “Visegrád” is less famous to Americans than Budapest or Prague
Schedule is limited (mostly Saturdays), so it can be hard to fit into tight itineraries
Some Hungarian signage or announcements may pop up; full context could be missed without basic English/Hungarian
Compared to huge medieval dinner shows in Spain/UK/US, production scale is smaller and drinks aren’t included
