Where and when

Guaranteed start every Saturday at 12:00 at Salamon Tower (Salamon-torony). Dates already listed include 2026.03.02, 2026.03.04, and 2026.03.07, all in Visegrád. Organizers reserve the right to change times and program.

How the tournament unfolds

Members of the Order of St. George ride out in full kit to show how warriors once fought for the favor of the king and queen in medieval Visegrád. At the start, the knights pick a king and queen from the crowd, dress them in royal cloaks, and crown them. At the king’s call, the knights march in and prove their aim and dueling skills with authentic weapons for the royal couple and their guests. Expect bold, true-to-period clashes, a dash of humor, and a royal hunting falcon taking flight. At the finale, guests can try medieval weapons with knightly guidance.

Pros
+
Family-friendly vibe with knights, falconry, and a chance for kids to be “royalty,” so everyone’s entertained
+
Show offered in English (plus German and Italian), so no Hungarian required for the main experience
+
Easy day trip from Budapest: Visegrád is reachable by bus/boat/car, and Salamon Tower and the Renaissance Restaurant are well signposted
+
Hands-on finale where guests can try medieval weapons adds a unique, memorable twist
+
Lunch feast is hearty and themed, making it feel like a full experience rather than just a show
+
Internationally familiar theme (medieval jousts/reenactments) means you’ll “get it” even if you’re not a history buff
+
Prices are reasonable by U.S. standards for a show-plus-feast combo - Visegrád itself isn’t as internationally famous as Budapest or Prague, so it may not be on every U.S. traveler’s radar
Cons
Public transport schedules can be limited on weekends, and driving/parking in peak season can be a hassle
Timed only for Saturdays at noon, so it’s easy to miss if your itinerary doesn’t line up
Compared with larger medieval festivals in Western Europe or U.S. renaissance fairs, it’s smaller in scale and can change times/program last-minute
