March 5 – Mindszenty Memorial Walk

On Thursday, March 5 at 15:30, a special castle walk marks the anniversary of József Mindszenty’s appointment as Bishop of Veszprém. The route leads through the Courthouse building to the Várbörtön Visitor Center. Fr. Krisztián Tornavölgyi, director of the archbishop’s office, offers a personal, story-rich tour. The tour is free but requires prior registration. Venue: Veszprém.

March 6 and 13 – Marriage Prep in Veszprém

Location: Padányi School, 6 Szeghlety J. Street, Veszprém. The “Jegyeskurzus” is a practical course for couples preparing for marriage and family life. Topics include the spirituality of marriage; the family we come from; relationship communication and conflict management; intimacy in marriage; male-female differences and marital pitfalls; and parenting and family life. Sessions run on March 6 and March 13 in Veszprém.

March 7–8 – Guided Castle Walks

Discover Veszprém’s historic heights with Guided Castle Walks on Saturday, March 7, and Sunday, March 8, starting at 11:30, 14:00, and 16:00. Venue: Veszprém.

March 14 – Weekend Walks and Lenten Music

Guided Castle Walks return on Saturday, March 14 at 14:00 and 16:00 in Veszprém. In the evening, St. Michael’s Metropolitan Cathedral hosts a Lenten musical devotion at 19:00. Performing: the Veszprém-based Cantabile Vocal Ensemble (Cantabile Énekegyüttes; conductor: Mária Petrőcz Veres Györgyné) and the CapPuccini Choir of Kaposvár (conductor: Zoltán Szili). Their joint service offers quiet, depth, and a path—through music—closer to the mystery of Christ’s Passion and redeeming love. Admission is free. Venue: Veszprém.

March 15 – Bible Role-Play for Kids

The Bible Role-Play series welcomes children ages 7–10 for social skills and emotional intelligence development. Venue: Gizella Hall, Archdiocesan Office, 8200 Veszprém, 18/2 Jutasi Road. Sunday dates: Feb 15, Mar 1, Mar 15, Mar 29, Apr 12, Apr 26. Venue: Veszprém.

March 28–29 – Adam Play and Live Passion

On Saturday, March 28 at 19:00, the program adds something new: the Adam Play, staged for the first time amid the walls of the Margaret (Margit) ruins. This Old French mystery play—among the earliest known European dramas, contemporary with Hungary’s Funeral Sermon—tells the story of the Fall. The tempter overcomes the first couple; alongside punishment comes the promise of the Savior’s advent, a pledge that still frames human existence.
On Palm Sunday, March 29 from 15:00, join the Live Passion, a moving mystery play that walks Veszprém’s iconic settings: through the Séd Valley, across the Margaret (Margit) ruins, and up to Benedict (Benedek) Hill. The experience invites hearts to be stirred by Christ’s Passion, death, and Resurrection. All are warmly welcomed to both the Adam Play on March 28 at 19:00 and the Palm Sunday Live Passion on March 29 from 15:00. Venue: Veszprém.

March 29 and April 12 – More Kids’ Role-Play

The Bible Role-Play for children ages 7–10 continues at Gizella Hall, Archdiocesan Office, 8200 Veszprém, 18/2 Jutasi Road, on Sundays March 29 and April 12, with a final spring date on April 26. Venue: Veszprém.

+
Clear spring schedule with multiple dates—easy to slot into a Hungary itinerary
+
Local choirs and clergy-led tours offer an authentic window into Hungarian Catholic culture
+
Centralized in Veszprém so you can base yourself in one town and do several activities - Not all parts fit tourists: marriage prep sessions are for engaged couples, not casual visitors
Cons
International name recognition is modest—Veszprém and Mindszenty aren’t household names for U.S. travelers, so context might be needed
Some programs may be Hungarian-only; English guidance isn’t guaranteed, so non-Hungarian speakers could miss details
Veszprém is reachable from Budapest by train/bus or car in 1.5–2 hours, but local wayfinding and Sunday schedules can be tricky compared with big-city events in Rome or Seville
