Their joint service aims to draw listeners into quiet reflection and the mystery of Christ’s Passion and redeeming love—through the language of music. Free entry; all are welcome.

Biblical Role-Play for Kids

A recurring Sunday series for children aged 7–10, developing social skills and emotional intelligence through biblical role-play. Hosted in the Gizella Hall of the Archbishop’s Office, 8200 Veszprém, Jutasi út 18/2. Dates: February 15, March 1, March 15, March 29, April 12, April 26. Bring curiosity and energy—every session builds confidence and community. Location: Veszprém.

Ádám-játék and Palm Sunday Live Passion

This year’s Palm Sunday program expands into a two-day experience. On Saturday, March 28, 7:00 p.m., the Ádám-játék (The Play of Adam) is staged for the first time within the walls of the Margaret Ruins (Margit-romok). This Old French mystery play—one of Europe’s earliest known dramas, contemporaneous with Hungary’s Funeral Sermon—depicts the fall of humanity: the tempter triumphs over the first couple, yet amid penalty comes the promise of a Redeemer, a thread that still defines human existence.
On Sunday, March 29, from 3:00 p.m., step into the Palm Sunday Live Passion, a moving, site-specific mystery play that winds through Veszprém’s iconic settings: along the Séd Stream valley, through the Margaret Ruins (Margit-romok), and up to Benedict Hill (Benedek-hegy). It’s an immersive way to encounter the depths of Christian faith—Christ’s Passion, crucifixion, and resurrection—through landscape, movement, and community. Everyone is warmly invited to both the Saturday premiere and the Sunday procession. Location: Veszprém.

Spring Highlights Ahead

April 12 brings another installment of the children’s biblical role-play at the Gizella Hall in Veszprém, keeping the momentum of learning through play alive.
On April 15, a joint concert by Martin Baker and Tamás Kéméndi promises virtuoso organ artistry—details to follow. And on May 28, János Pálúr’s Creation Story (Teremtéstörténet) arrives with a program likely to blend music and meditation on beginnings.

Plan with Flexibility

Organizers reserve the right to change times and programs. Check local listings or parish channels as dates approach, and register where needed—especially for guided walks and limited-seating events. Veszprém is ready to host; you just have to show up.

Pros
+
Family-friendly lineup with kids’ role-play, gentle guided walks, and free concerts that work for multiple ages
+
Many events (walks, concerts, Palm Sunday Passion) are free or low-cost—easy on a U.S. traveler’s budget
+
Veszprém’s castle district and cathedral are compact and scenic, so it’s easy to sample a lot in a short visit
+
The subject matter (Christian history, Lent, Passion plays) is broadly familiar to international visitors, even if specific names aren’t
+
Location is near Lake Balaton and about 1.5–2 hours from Budapest, so it’s an easy add-on by train, bus, or rental car
+
Most programs are welcoming to non-Hungarian speakers—music, walks, and visual pageantry translate well
+
Stacks up well versus European Easter-season traditions: smaller crowds than Seville or Rome but similarly moving processions and music - Some talks, courses, and kids’ activities may be Hungarian-only, so non-speakers could miss details
Cons
Veszprém isn’t as internationally famous as Budapest, so first-time U.S. visitors might need extra planning
Religious focus is strong; if you’re after secular nightlife or museums, the program can feel niche
Popular events may require registration and have schedule changes, which complicates a tight itinerary
