Malom és Kacsa In Tata Unveils A Bold 2026 Lineup

Malom és Kacsa in Tata: 2026 lineup of theater, concerts, exhibitions, sauna rituals, wine dinners, and culinary events by Old Lake—heritage vibes, boutique hotel comfort, unforgettable experiences.
when: 2026. March 9., Monday

Tata’s lakeside Malom és Kacsa is packing 2026 with theater, exhibitions, concerts, workshops, sauna rituals, and culinary adventures—served with the venue’s signature flair and flavors. The action unfolds at 2890 Tata, Tópart u. 19., a historic mill complex turned boutique hotel and destination restaurant on the shore of Old Lake, where heritage meets modern indulgence in a tranquil, inspiring setting.

March 11: “Apád előtt ne vetkőzz” shakes the room

Éva Péterfy-Novák’s searing drama “Apád előtt ne vetkőzz” (Don’t Undress in Front of Your Father) arrives for audiences 18+. Adapted for the stage and directed by István Tasnádi, and performed by Bori Péterfy and Ferenc Pataki, the production dives into parallel stories that echo across generations. In the early 1920s, eight-year-old Károly and four-year-old Anna lose their parents to the Spanish flu and enter an orphanage. Half a century later, five-year-old Eszter forges an unusually intimate bond with her grandfather, Tatus—the one person she believes loves her beyond all else—only to have that trust betrayed. Can deeply warped family patterns be broken? From the creators of Egyasszony (One Woman), the show confronts taboo with unflinching honesty. Visuals by Adrienn Antal-Fógel, poster by László Csáfordi, produced by Tibor Orlai, and created in collaboration with Óbuda Cultural Center (Óbudai Kulturális Központ), FÜGE, and Orlai Production Office (Orlai Produkciós Iroda).

March 14–15: A weekend for sauna fanatics

Sauna culture takes center stage inside the Malom és Kacsa Boutique Hotel. If sauna time is more than relaxation—if it’s passion, ritual, and community—this is your weekend. On Old Lake’s shore in the heart of Tata, expect specialty sauna sessions, themed pours, essential-oil ceremonies, and a full-on sauna master show. Between rounds, cool off in the fresh air, sink into relaxation zones, and settle into lakeside calm. The whole experience is crafted to feel complete, atmospheric, and deeply restorative.

March 17: A properly Irish night

For one night only, it’s off to Ireland. March 17 is St. Patrick’s Day, everything turns green, and you should too—dig out something green from the closet. Guinness will be on tap as it should be: black gold with a creamy head. From 19:00, authentic Irish music flows live courtesy of Seamróg feat. Márti. In the kitchen, Irish-inspired chef’s specials bring bold, characterful flavors designed to pair with the pint and the tunes. Come for the stout, stay for the session vibe.

March 20: Soul-soothing relaxation with a spring tasting journey

An evening woven from sound and flavor: a guided deep relaxation with crystal singing bowls leads you into the quiet—where thoughts soften, the soul settles into silence, and the body shakes off stress and pent-up tension. After the inward calm comes a culinary journey sparked by the season’s treasures. The restaurant’s chef plates the essence of spring: aromatic, richly layered, color-splashed dishes with textures that delight the palate and lift the spirit. More than dinner, more than relaxation—this is a sanctuary for a tired soul, and a reminder that quality me-time isn’t a luxury; it’s a necessity.

March 27: Iconic wines of historic regions

Explore timeless bottles from legendary wineries at a thoughtfully composed wine dinner where every course evokes a different wine region. Malom és Kacsa’s sommelier, Benjámin Szeredi, leads the night with expert storytelling and spot-on food–wine pairings—elegance, knowledge, and experience poured into each glass. Expect harmonies of aroma and flavor that come alive in the venue’s warm, character-rich atmosphere.

April 15: Tamás Jordán rides the wind, jokes and poems in tow

Tamás Jordán arrives with a brilliantly witty stand-up night, “Széllel szembe” (Against the Wind). He spins stories—many from the theater world—braiding them with poetry delivered so naturally it feels like part of the conversation. Jokes, anecdotes, and tales veering into the grotesque merge with lines from Karinthy, Kosztolányi, Radnóti, Attila József, Ady, and Babits. Sharp, distilled wisdom sits perfectly alongside free-flowing storytelling. Light-hearted scenes open into deeper meanings, and he plays across a fantastically wide emotional and tonal range. The show earned the VIDOR Festival’s Special Prize in 2013 for exemplary innovation in its genre.

May 13: “Cukorbaba” bares the stage and the self

Cukorbaba (Sugar Baby), inspired by the life of Lujza Blaha, stretches the borders of theater, music, literature, and puppetry—a cross-disciplinary performance where each moment is both confession and performance. The production tackles sharp, current questions: the challenges of an actress’s vocation, the possession of the female body, the line between stage and private life, and the demands lurking behind the price of love. Alongside reflections from great actresses, you’ll hear the voices of today’s YouTubers and celebrity influencers. What is stardom? What are affectations? How do values shift? What does it mean to be an actress, to be a woman, to face an audience, and to own yourself?

Pros
+
Family-friendly overall: lakeside setting, restaurant, and hotel fit multigenerational trips, with specific adults-only shows clearly labeled 18+
+
Mix of events keeps everyone busy—concerts, workshops, sauna rituals, wine dinners, and foodie nights mean you won’t get bored
+
Location on Old Lake in Tata is scenic and relaxed, great for a low-stress add-on to a Budapest/Vienna itinerary
+
Many elements (sauna weekend, St. Patrick’s party, wine dinner) are enjoyable without Hungarian fluency; staff in hospitality spots often speak some English
+
Easy by car from Budapest or Vienna airports; M1 motorway is straightforward and parking at venues in smaller towns is usually simple
+
Reachable by public transport: trains from Budapest to Tatabánya/Tata, then short taxi or local bus to the lakefront
+
Price-to-quality can beat comparable boutique hotel–restaurant experiences in Western Europe, with strong culinary and wine credentials
Cons
Some headline theater/stand-up pieces are in Hungarian, so non-speakers may miss the nuance
Tata isn’t internationally famous; U.S. visitors may need extra planning and research vs. going to Budapest-only events
Public transport last-mile can be clunky at night; taxis/rides may require calling ahead
Adult themes (e.g., “Apád előtt ne vetkőzz,” “Cukorbaba”) mean not all programming is kid-appropriate despite the family-friendly setting
