February 11 marks the kickoff of HOME START (Otthon Start), a new film-club series at the Ferencváros-based START Film Club (START Filmklub) that explores homemaking and the struggle to secure housing through cinema. Each screening is followed by expert talks unpacking the historical and social context, keeping the conversation grounded in real life and policy.
Directors and debates
The lineup features films by heavyweights like Károly Makk (Makk Károly), Péter Gothár (Gothár Péter), László Lugossy (Lugossy László), and Sándor Simó (Simó Sándor), bringing sharp, often witty perspectives to the private dramas and public pressures around where and how people live. After every film, specialists in housing, social policy, and film history join as guests, connecting on-screen stories to everyday realities and long arcs of urban change.
How to join
Screenings are free but require registration, so you’ll need to sign up in advance to reserve a seat. The series invites audiences to think beyond the frame: who gets a home, who doesn’t, and what it takes to build one—materially, legally, and emotionally.
