Visegrád’s Knightly Tournament Returns Every Saturday

Experience Visegrád’s 2026 knightly tournament and royal banquet at Solomon Tower and Renaissance Restaurant—authentic combat, falconry, and family-friendly feasting every Saturday in Hungary’s historic heart.
when: 2026. March 10., Tuesday

Visegrád is gearing up for 2026 with its crowd-favorite medieval spectacle: a full-throttle knightly tournament paired with a royal feast, staged in one of Hungary’s most atmospheric historic settings. It runs every Saturday without fail, with extra dates sprinkled through the week on select occasions. If steel-on-steel duels, falcon flights, and indulgent banqueting are your thing, this is the Middle Ages brought to life—and you’re invited.

Epic Combat in the Solomon Tower (Salamon-torony)

Set against the rugged stone of the Solomon Tower (Salamon-torony), armored warriors clash in dazzling bouts that blend historical accuracy with pure theater. Expect ringing swords, tense showdowns, and meticulous, era-authentic demonstrations fit for all ages. The tower’s sweeping panorama and immersive vibe turn a tourist outing into a time warp, where 14th-century Visegrád feels a heartbeat away.

Feast Like Royalty at the Renaissance Restaurant (Renaissance Étterem)

After the adrenaline, it’s straight to a royal banquet at the Renaissance Restaurant (Renaissance Étterem). Candlelit halls, hearty platters, and traditional recipes come with proper courtly service. Families, friend groups, office teams, and anyone celebrating something special will feel right at home beneath the tapestries.

How the Show Unfolds

Members of the Order of St. George revive the chivalric code with a high-energy tournament, competing for the favor of the king and queen—both chosen from the audience, robed in royal cloaks, and crowned before the action kicks off. At the king’s command, the knights enter and prove their aim and combat prowess with period weapons. The duels are thrilling and believable, spiced with moments of humor. A royal hunting falcon sweeps the sky to cap the atmosphere. At the finale, guests can try medieval weapons under knightly supervision. Dining at the Renaissance Restaurant (Renaissance Étterem) is available before or after the show.

Pros
+
Super family-friendly vibe with audience-picked “king and queen,” kid-safe humor, and a chance to try (supervised) medieval weapons
+
Internationally understandable theme—knights, falcons, and feasting are pop-culture famous, so you don’t need to be a history buff to enjoy it
+
Visegrád is a classic Danube Bend day-trip from Budapest, so many foreign visitors have heard of it via castle/river tours
+
No Hungarian required—visual action, simple scheduling, and staff at tourist spots usually speak some English
+
Easy access: about an hour from Budapest by car; frequent buses from Budapest to Visegrád, short local taxi or walk to sites
+
Price is great value compared to medieval dinner shows in Western Europe or U.S. renaissance fairs, especially the tournament-only option
+
Weekly Saturday schedule with extra dates makes planning simple for short-stay travelers
Cons
Not as globally famous as, say, a joust at a UK castle or Disneyland stunt show, so it may fly under the radar and need extra planning
Public transport involves a bus (or seasonal boat) plus short transfers; not as plug-and-play as central Budapest attractions
Banquet is meat-heavy and traditional—vegetarian, vegan, or allergy-friendly options aren’t highlighted
Weather can affect outdoor stages and the tower visit; program changes are reserved by organizers so flexibility is wise
