Visegrád’s Knight Tournament Returns Every Saturday

Experience Visegrád’s 2026 medieval knight tournament and royal feast at Solomon Tower and Renaissance Restaurant—family-friendly combat, falconry, and banquet every Saturday in Hungary’s most immersive historical program.
when: 2026. March 10., Tuesday

Step into a living slice of the Middle Ages in Visegrád, where armored champions clash, falcons wheel overhead, and a royal feast crowns the day. Hungary’s most popular medieval program is back for 2026, guaranteed every Saturday and on select extra dates during the week. Pair the knight tournament with a kingly banquet for an experience that lingers long after the trumpets fade.

Spectacle at the Solomon Tower

In the storied courtyards of the Solomon Tower, the clang of steel and the blaze of heraldry turn back time. Sword-on-sword duels, authentic demonstrations, and pageantry thrill all ages against a backdrop of sweeping views and stone walls that have witnessed centuries of intrigue. It’s not just a show—it feels like time travel, staged where 14th-century Visegrád once pulsed with royal favor and fierce rivalry.

A Feast Fit for a King

After (or before) the arena dust settles, the Renaissance Restaurant (Renaissance Étterem) lays out a royal banquet in its medieval-style halls. Expect generous platters rooted in traditional recipes, served with period flair. It’s a perfect choice for families, groups of friends, company team-building, and any big occasion that deserves a little fanfare.

What Happens Every Saturday

Members of the Order of Saint George (Szent György Lovagrend) stage a vivid knightly contest, showing how warriors once fought for the favor of the king and queen in 14th-century Visegrád. At the start, the knights choose a king and queen from the audience, robe and crown them, and offer a salute. On command, fighters march in and prove their aim and battle skills with medieval weapons before the royal couple and guests. Duels play out with realism, excitement, and playful flashes of humor. A royal hunting falcon takes flight to add drama in the skies. To close, guests can try medieval weapons under a knight’s guidance.

Pros
+
Super family-friendly: kids get crowned as “royalty,” there’s humor, falconry, and even a try-the-weapons finale
+
Easy weekend planning: it runs every Saturday in 2026, so you don’t have to gamble on dates
+
The medieval theme is universally recognizable—knights, duels, royal banquet—so you’ll “get it” even without deep Hungarian history knowledge
+
Visegrád is a classic day-trip from Budapest (about an hour): reachable by bus, boat in season, or rental car with straightforward driving
+
Location is legitimately historic (Solomon Tower), so you’re not in a theme park—great views of the Danube Bend for photos
+
English isn’t mandatory to enjoy the show; visuals carry it, and staff at tourist sites around Visegrád usually manage basic English
+
Great value by European standards: the tournament is inexpensive, and the combo with a big feast is still reasonable compared to medieval dinners in Western Europe
Cons
Visegrád isn’t as internationally famous as Budapest or Eger, so many U.S. visitors won’t recognize it and might overlook it
Public-transport timing can be clunky on weekends; boats are seasonal, buses can be crowded, and you’ll need to sync with the 12:00 start
The banquet is meat-heavy and old-school; picky eaters or strict dietary needs may find limited options
Compared to big jousting festivals in the UK/France, this is smaller-scale pageantry—more intimate, less grand arena spectacle
