Weekends draw crowds for the hottest program, starting at 11:30, 14:00, and 16:00. Unlock exclusive sites like the Archbishop’s Palace with its Baroque interiors, restored spaces, and standout artifacts. Slip into Gizella Chapel, the castle quarter’s oldest and quietest sacred spot, where surviving fresco fragments evoke a medieval mood. Explore St. Michael’s Cathedral and its crypt, the city’s defining structure—its basilica backstory and the crypt’s medieval touches paint Veszprém’s true tale. Then visit St. George’s Chapel, an ancient memorial in the castle core, open only on these tours.
Free Exhibitions at Biró–Giczey House
All exhibits inside are free during opening hours. “Bogáncs és liliom – Magdolnák virágai” (Thistle and Lily – Magdalene’s Flowers), the 2025 Exhibition of the Year winner, spotlights Mary Magdalene through artifacts, engravings, and modern reflections, tied to Blessed Bódi Mary Magdalene’s thoughts. The crypt’s vaulted hush and stone-trapped time make it unforgettable. St. George’s Chapel, on the cathedral’s north side, ranks among Hungary’s oldest Christian sites. Excavations revealed its 10th-century rotunda walls. Legend says Prince St. Emeric vowed here before the Virgin’s altar, giving it sacred weight. Medieval pilgrims flocked; it housed St. George’s head relic, gifted by a Byzantine emperor to King St. Stephen. Tours run year-round, 60 minutes, limited groups.
