Pros
+
Super family-friendly vibe since it welcomes everyone, with kid tickets at just $5 and free for under-7s, making it easy to drag the fam along without breaking the bank
+
Fountain pen shows are a global geek fest, similar to the big US ones like DC or SF Pen Show, so if you're into that hobby, you'll feel right at home internationally
+
Budapest's a massive hit with American tourists – think thermal baths and ruin bars – and Ferencváros is a trendy district full of street art and cool cafes nearby
+
No Hungarian skills required at all, with international vendors from Italy, Germany, and beyond chatting in English and a welcoming expat collector crowd
+
Dead easy to reach via Budapest's awesome public transport – trams zip right along Könyves Kálmán körút, metro's close, and parking's straightforward if you're driving a rental
+
Stacks up great against US pen shows with rare vintage finds, hands-on testing, and unique Hungarian/European makers you won't see stateside, all for way cheaper tickets
+
Affordable steal at $8 entry, plus hands-on demos, expert tips, and shopping for inks/papers that beat most tourist traps in value and fun
Cons
Super niche for pen nerds only – if your family's more into Harry Potter tours or Danube cruises, this might bore them to tears
The event itself is low-key internationally, just its third year, so it's not a bucket-list must-do like Comic-Con or massive US pen fests
Ferencváros isn't the super-touristy core like Buda Castle area, so you'll need to venture a bit off the beaten path from main sights
November timing means chilly Budapest weather, which could cramp outdoor plans before or after hitting the indoor show
