Tick, Tick… Boom! Hits the Spot
Wednesday, March 25 at 7pm dives into Jonathan Larson’s autobiographical musical Tick, Tick… Boom! (Tikk-Takk Bumm!), first staged Off-Broadway in New York and now a global smash, with a multi-award-winning Netflix film from 2021. As composer Jon nears 30, he grapples with big questions: Where’s his career at? Will he make it big? Is this even his path? He senses something real has to happen before the big 3-0. Follow Jon, the struggling composer; his best pal Michael, who swapped acting dreams for a PR gig; and girlfriend Susan, a pro dancer still chasing her break. The show feels like an intimate acoustic club set by actor Ember Márk as Jon – raw, personal tales of a doubting artist’s search. Three actors slip into multiple roles, unpacking Gen-Y woes with live music: no wars, no hunger, comfy upbringings, yet terrified of real life. Adulthood’s weight, future fears, commitment phobias crush them, and they muddle through with mixed results.
