Happening across multiple spots in 8200 Veszprém from March 28 (Saturday) to March 29 (Sunday) and beyond, these events dive deep into faith, history, and community. Whether you’re into dramatic plays, choral performances, kids’ role-playing, or preparation for marriage, there’s something to touch your soul.
Adam Play at Margit Ruins
Kick things off on March 28 at 7 p.m. with the premiere of the Adam Play (Ádám-játék) at the Margit Ruins. This isn’t just theater—it’s a shared prayer and spiritual pilgrimage that unpacks Christ’s love and humanity’s hope through the ages. The old French mystery play, one of Europe’s earliest known dramas from the 12th century, tells the fall of man. The tempter overcomes the first couple, but alongside punishment comes the promise of the Savior’s arrival, shaping our existence to this day. Everyone’s invited to this special Lenten highlight in Veszprém.
Palm Sunday Live Passion Journey
The next day, March 29 at 3 p.m., join the Live Passion mystery play (Élő Passió) for Palm Sunday (Virágvasárnap). Experience Jesus’ Passion, crucifixion, and resurrection as you trek Veszprém’s iconic sites—from the Séd stream valley, past Margit Ruins, up to Benedek Hill. This immersive experience lets you live out the deepest mysteries of the Christian faith. Paired with the previous night’s Adam Play premiere, it makes for a powerhouse weekend.
Padányi Schola’s Passion Choral Service
Also on March 29, hear the Padányi Schola during the 10:30 a.m. archiepiscopal Mass in St. Michael’s Cathedral (Szent Mihály Főszékesegyház), singing Passion hymns. Their voices will elevate the service.
Kids’ Biblical Role-Playing Series
Kids aged 7-10 will love the Biblical Role-Playing series (Bibliai szerepjáték gyerekeknek), building social skills and emotional intelligence through Bible stories. Held on Sundays at the Archdiocesan Office’s Gizella Hall, 8200 Veszprém, Jutasi út 18/2. Dates: February 15, March 1, 15, 29, April 12, and 26—all in Veszprém.
Free Engagement Course for Couples
Couples preparing for marriage, check out the free Engagement Course (Jegyeskurzus) over two weekends: May 29-30 and June 5-6 in Veszprém. Topics cover marriage spirituality, family backgrounds, relationship communication and conflict resolution, intimacy, male-female differences and pitfalls, and child-rearing and family life. It’s your guide to a strong start.
